SpeedofLite Thanks (again and again and again) for posting these trips in the Way-Back Machine. They are a ton o' fun.
But I had to laugh, or at least giggle, at the idea that a 31 inch low gear is "almost as low" as a 25 inch low gear. Not to this Clydesdale whose almost every ride involves multiple miles of not-insignificant climbing. Believe, I can tell the difference between a 30x30, a 30x29 and a 30x28 low gear. And I can sure as heck tell a 26x29 from all of 'em.
But I had to laugh, or at least giggle, at the idea that a 31 inch low gear is "almost as low" as a 25 inch low gear. Not to this Clydesdale whose almost every ride involves multiple miles of not-insignificant climbing. Believe, I can tell the difference between a 30x30, a 30x29 and a 30x28 low gear. And I can sure as heck tell a 26x29 from all of 'em.

I remember lusting after technium bikes. Not sure why now but they were cool at the time.

When I worked in a bike shop 1986-90, we were not fan of Techniums. I think it was mostly our faithfulness to the traditional Raleigh brand. In other words, how can they call that abomination a SuperCourse!!

Im a Clyde too --- i can also detect the subtle nuances of a couple of teeth one way or the other in the granny gear
