Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think that simply throwing the big switch and saying, "yeah, you can turn it back on if you want," left the ranks of participants much lower than the actual number that would be willing to share that info if they knew the why/how of it.
Pretty much this. The location tracking concerns, especially for women, were legitimate concerns and should've been addressed. Unfortunately Strava tends to take a "nuclear weapon to kill a gnat" approach to everything. Plus they were already under the spotlight because of the aforementioned military security issues which, to be fair, were not Strava's fault. That was a "soldiers and contractors surprised to find that their workouts uploaded to a public site are public" sort of thing but Strava took the heat for it.

Edit: I do have a crank arm puller, not sure if it is compatible. Came with one of the “bike tool kits” on amazon. So far most of the tools work well enough just to get me into trouble.
Once you take off the left arm, the crank should come. Just give it a pull.

I did notice one street where the lawns seemed a lot greener, so I suspect there's a lot of 'monkey see/monkey do' going on.

I wonder how many women who might otherwise really enjoy cycling get out of it because of some of the guys in it. I see a lot more groups of 2-5 women riding together occasionally with one guy, than I see one women riding with a group of men.

We're what, about a month behind the UK for the Delta variant?

About that. The daily case count in LA County had been under 2 per 100K for the past few months but in the last few weeks has gone up to over 10.

Any reports of the vax'd getting it in significant numbers? Or, are those primarily unvax'd people?

She’s up for a mid-cycle promotion right now, and as a result will probably make double what I do shortly. When I finally get severed whenever they want to make me move, my job search is going to be mostly based on being able to take all non-work tasks off her plate.

Austin is going crazy right now. My daughter just moved back. When she was shopping for a place to rent, these are some of the things she and her two roommates ran into:

1. They put in their app and a deposit for a place, but were then told that someone else offered $2,000 per month over the listed rental rate so they got bumped.

2. At another place within their comfortable rent range, they were told that they would only qualify if each of them (all 25 with good paying jobs) made at least $165,000 per year for a combined household income of right at $500,000. Hard to do when you are just two years out of school. Seems their combined incomes of about $300,000 was just not enough.

I don't have details on that, but by report the vast majority of those hospitalized are un-vaxxed.

That's what I understood.

Might need some cataclysmic event to get the anti-vaxxers off their stupid platform. I know plenty, and their reasons just don't make sense.

Of course, nobody likes to be magnetized.

Yeah, maybe if they took the microchip out of the vaccine and gave free tinfoil hats with each shot, they would have more success.

Oh. SS is building a nice bike system, and there's that massive system in NYS. It's cold, but I've dealt with that before. Would definitely need a full-bore trainer system. Mainly just the addition of a big rocker plate.
