No tensile strength, 'tho, so wouldn't keep bar tape from unwrapping very well.
I have only ever seen an advertisment for it so appreciate the input.
I guess its main electrical use would be in places where it would be difficult to tape.

I don’t use electrical tape at all. I cut the last few wraps at an angle so the edge of the bar tape tapers to a 90 degree angle to the bars and hold it in place with a little crazy glue.

That's what I said back in Post #31. VBG I think it's the neatest looking way to finish handlebar tape = no black or other colour to worry about.

Cheers

I used Gorilla Tape the last time I wrapped a set of bars. It is heavier and much much stickier than electrical tape or duct tape. It is the closest thing to 100mph tape used in the USAF back in the day. So far this has held up well over the last season for me.

I started wrapping handlebar tape in the late 60's. Not sure when the change to ending near the stem and securing with tape started but I still start near the stem and finish at the plug ends. No tape needed. Can anyone tell me why it changed to the current style?

Over the years I've accumulated a bunch of partial rolls of cloth handlebar tape. These short pieces, usually good for about three wraps are a perfect finish for newer padded and even leather handlebar tape. The trick is to add a little white glue, such as Elmers to the backs of the short pieces that use to secure the synthetic or leather tape. Of course, if you wrap entirely with cloth tape, you won't need the short pieces. Jus apply the glue to to the last three wraps. Otherwise, I would use an electrical tape such as Scotch 33 and stretch it tightly. Plumber's tape that adheres to itself works well too. Except the the last two wraps must be a double layer to maintain adhesion. Again, it must be stretched tightly.

I too have been wrapping handlebars for years. It always made sense to me to start at the bar ends as it seemed like the seams would fray less as pressure on the handle bars tends in the direction of drops to the brake hoods and from the hoods to the stem. I think that might be one reason that is currently the preferred way to wrap the bars, especially with synthetic and leather tape.

My local shop has been using hockey tape, and I picked up a roll myself. I prefer it over electrical tape, looks much classier!
