Man, there sure are some wonderful bikes in my 59/60cm size - both here and on my local CL.
I could upgrade from my Zeus, add a 60s beauty, try an exquisite Olmo, acquire that perfect Raleigh colourway…….
at some point….

Here's the cure:
1. Buy bikes that are not your size. Makes letting them go so much easier.
2. Evaluate any addition against your current fleet: one bike in, one bike out.
3. Set a realistic financial limit, based on family finances.
4. Find a donor bike and upgrade one of your current bikes. Fall in love again!
On storage, a recent remodel cut my storage and shop area by 2/3. That has made parting so much easier.

It's been freeing to release furniture, clothing, fine china, silver, books, sporting goods we no longer use, tools (duplicates mostly), and even bikes. I've sold three in the last month and a half. The reason why? We've decided that Our possessions are largely impractical in our new home. We're trying to simplify our new life and looking critically at what brings us joy. I'll admit that it's both scary and exciting.
Now, Wildwood is a tremendous vintage bike enthusiast. He has a complete grasp of his actions and their consequences, and I'm not questioning or criticizing that. I enjoy seeing his bikes and learning of his experiences, as with running tubulars routinely. So don't take this as my throwing shade on the thread. It's just a thought.

In spite of already having 9 road bikes (plus 4 more fixed gears) from various eras, I've bought 2 more local bargains in the past month or so, a 531 Trek 700 and an 853 Lemond Buenos Aires combined for less than a XD cassette. I keep telling myself if I buy any more bikes they need to be mtb, where the local flipping market is still hot.
I'm telling myself (and the wife) that when the coming inflation gets bad, bikes are going to keep appraising.
btw, did you see that rasta fade Lemond on CL down in Kent a couple weeks ago. It had an early USE suspension seatpost and a Softride stem for $350. I was so tempted, but I just don't like paying that much for a bike.

my inadvertent method has been to only buy really nice bikes.
This has largely left me to be somewhat tempted by bikes, but usually able to say.. "eh.. I've already got a nicer one of that style".
I'm at my limit in terms of space, so the urge to buy another bike is moderated by the difficulty of figuring out where to put it.
I think that a great strategy is to cultivate friendships with folks who ride the same size bike as you. Now and then you swap bikes for a ride, just so you can see how they ride. It satisfies the curiosity without all of the repercussions of a purchase.
