Squeak when standing…what is it

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Squeak when standing…what is it

So my bike recently developed a squeak that only happens when standing and pedaling at reasonably hard resistance. It only happens when the right leg is down and bike is tilted to the left. Can’t figure out what’s making the noise. Any thoughts?

I know from experience that it's not one the first five things that you think it might be.

I take it you haven't had a problem like this before, or even read one of these threads... We can guess and guess, but nobody has as much info as you. Maybe if you shot a vid, we'd stand a chance... You'd probably need help with that though.

Could be a zillion things, but at least you know it's not your seat.

Standing, right leg down, bike tilted to the left?

Pedal spindles tight? Is the rim brake caliper offset to one side and making contact with the wheel when it deflects?

Might even be just the spokes groaning as forces on them change while you begin to pedal hard.

I have the same squeak. Happens sometimes when I pedal, but always when pedal hard. Does not do it when I rock the bike without pedaling. I just put on a new chain and have just reinstalled the wheels after changing the brake pads.

I also rode with regular shoes on and on both sides of pedals and it squeaked.

Could be handlebars- you are pulling up on them when you pedal standing up...

It could even be the brakes if you have discs. But my case turned out to be loose BB. I re-tightened and problem is gone!

That is so true. Remove, clean, grease, install, try... Remove, clean, grease, reinstall, try... x10

Last time it happened, I was thinking of inventing a tool (small microphone) that you can put in different places on your bike to identify where exactly the creaking comes from. I opened a beer instead and stripped the whole bike.
