7/2 - 7.6 mi.
7/5 - 27.2
MTD: 34.8 mi.
Monthly goal: 300 miles
Had a bonus workout when a rear brake pad started dragging on the rim. Once I looked closer it was not hard to see why. After 12 years and untold thousands of miles of commuting on L.A.’s ill-maintained streets, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised it finally gave out.
The really impressive part was when I walked into my LBS and asked the tech for help, he immediately took the wheel he’d been working on out of the truing stand and dropped mine in. He asked if I’d like a new wheel, and I said “I’m gonna need one.” Within 10 minutes he had my tire, tube, rim strip, and cassette off the old wheel and installed on my new one. He even cleaned my cassette and double-checked the trueness of the new wheel. It was almost worth the $100 cost of the new wheel just to get to watch it. Looking forward to taking it on its first commute.

Tested positive for Covid last night. Very minor symptoms similar to a light cold. Rode a metric century today to combat it. Edited to add a night ride to get to a regular century. Haven’t had a 100 mile day in almost exactly 2 years.

Test-rode the new wheel and dialed in the derailleur. Actually looking forward to riding to work tomorrow, just so I can ride it again.

Maiden commute on the new rear wheel. Not quite like a new bike, but not too far from the same feeling.

I stupidly didn't fully charge my headlamp so last night I had to cut the ride a bit short. Had the light on low to stretch out the power, which meant I had to go a lot slower. Even at 9pm, too many people in dark clothes walking the MUP, had to be careful. Then a stag beetle smacked me on the cheek and decided to cling there.

Went down to Cuyahoga Valley National Park yesterday and rode nonstop. I usually stop halfway through a 15+ mile ride but felt good so I just stayed on it.
Averaged 14.5mph on the way back, which is flying for me.

Riding along the MUP in the dark tonight, when I come across a deer standing by the side of the path. Took off before I could grab a photo. I know for many of you seeing deer on your rides is no big deal, there are so many these days. But we are pretty urban, and in 30 years living in our town, this is only the second time I've seen one.
