XT front derailleur with GRX crankset?

Is it possible to use an XT (or similar) mountain front derailleur with a GRX 46/30T crankset?

I suspect that a 16T difference might be too much, but wonder if it is at all possible?

From what I have read, the GRX crankset is set outboard 2.5mm, you may have to use the GRX front derailleur. I haven't worked with the GRX, so I don't know for sure.

I think that is relative to road cranksets, so it will be inboard by about 0.5mm for mtn. That is why I am hoping it could work.

My main motive is cheapness -- I found a $50 Di2 XT front derailleur, so I could save about $200.
