Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Ride Reports - September 2022

If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, we welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, we welcome you, too.

This thread is for anyone who rides a bicycle ... or unicycle, tricycle, tandem, etc.

Are you an experienced road cyclist? Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? Do you ride weekends? Do you spin at home or in the gym? Is Zwift your thing? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Touring? Audax/Randonneuring?
Or are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid?

There are no set challenges - this is a mixed-ability / mixed-experience / everyone welcome group.

Just pick the target that you would like to achieve this month and post updates throughout the month as you work toward your target. We love seeing photos of your rides and hearing all about them.

Share your accomplishments with us.

Trek Bicycles Kingwood Taco Ride For Bloom Fitness
I got up early to ride to the start of the Trek Bicycle Kingwood Taco Ride benefiting Bloom Fitness. I have a personal connection with Bloom Fitness because my niece has a disability and they come to the learning center she goes to. I rolled away at 7:02 AM to ride to the Trek location, about 2 miles from my house. As I approached the store I saw a number of vehicles with people getting their bikes ready and riding to the store area. We were scheduled to roll at 7:30 but we were a few minutes late with instructions and the president of Bloom Fitness telling us what they do. I would guess maybe 150 cyclists were there. We divided up into the usual A, B, C groups with each start a couple minutes after the group ahead. I chose the C group because I slow and older. The C group probably numbered 20 to 30. ...

61th Annual (except for Covid) TOSRV-Tour of the Scioto River Valley. Back in the 80's they had over 7000 riders. Now about 450. My 46th (me on the right) and my brother Brian's 49th. We used to haul ass, but we put the "tour" back in TOSRV some years ago.
100 miles from Canal Winchester, Ohio (near Columbus) to Portsmouth on the Ohio river. Return the next day.

Lots of good rides in September, but the most important one is my fastest metric century ride so far (3h13 @ 31km/h and 940m of elevation). For the imperial system lovers, it's 19,26mph & 3084ft of elevation.

My 100km goal this year was to do it sub 3h30. Goal next year will certainly be 3h or less!

My club’s individual time trial.
As usual, I was the rabbit. But for once, I was not caught.

Sept. 25: 64.15 miles, 2,208 ft. ascent, 4h 23m

Today, I completed what I would consider my first epic ride. I did the Alpine Loop near Provo, UT. Leaving from my house brought the mileage to 49.86 with a total elevation gain of 3,809 feet (completed in 3h 24m). The weather was beautiful, the leaves were changing color, I beat my goal time up to the summit, and the descent was a blast. Perfect bike ride.
