Didn’t plan for today’s ride very well. 41 miles solo directly into the wind. But the reward was lunch at Stameys in Tyro. Winds were more helpful the remaining 20+ miles.
Is it summer time yet! I’m already tired of cold and windy .......
A really good pork BBQ joint
Half way through a chopped BBQ sandwich and hush puppies
Yep, it was windy
An industrial humidifier!!!
Look!!! A fossilized snowman!!
More junk food but gives me another 20 miles

After long break, finally I decided to do some biking instead of running, 15.5 miles from Tequesta Coral Cove Park to Hobe Sound Beach Park and back.
Super nice weather 73F, calm, sunny with few clouds here and there. Lots of bikers on the route. The road has little traffic and 30mph speed limit There are no designated bike lanes so those few cars have problems passing so many bikes, specially on weekends - patience is advised.

Our ride on Feb. 2 was a TEST ride for two different changes, I switch from the stock fc-1 seat on my RANS Fusion crank forward bike to a Cloud 9 Cruiser Contour Saddle. The old saddle is designed to be set at a "nose down" angle but that put pressure on my slightly elongated tailbone! Had to order the seat from Amazon and the new "mounting plate" from RANS, got it all put together and on the bike. Then I also finished a home built utility trailer as our 30 year old Ford Ranger has developed serious/expensive transmission and other problems so we are looking at having to be "CAR FREE" again soon. With both the seat and the trailer on and hitiched up we headed over the the Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort here in Co. Springs, CO. to deliver a homemade bike themed stove towel my wife Jo made for Torri the owner. 17 miles RT on a BEAUTIFUL 60 F and sunny winters day here in So. CO.!! Both the new seat and the trailer worked great so a total success, stopped at a park for a brown bag lunch then rode a different way home!!
LOL, well here's the "RIG" as I call it, the trailer pulled like it wasn't there so all is GOOD!

After very minimal bike riding in January it was time to get back out on the road. Finally caught a nice day to ride. A really slow 5 hour ride but it’s a start! It’s amazing how quickly fitness can deteriorate......just tried to ride smart.
Today’s ride
Lunch, foot long special
As calm and smooth as it gets
Releasing a small amount of water
Yet another selfie
This oak tree was HUGE

We got a dusting of snow this morning but did get in a 20 mile, but VERY WINDY ride on Sunday, headed out in search of some pasta for lunch and found two places CLOSED due to the Super Bowl, finally found a place in down town Colorado Springs, YUM!! Photos on both the north/south and east/west legs of the Templeton Gap Trail.
T-Gap east/west leg.
T-Gap north/south leg at the LOW trail next to the drainage ditch at the bottom was a huge sheet of thick ICE!! Walked the bikes over SLOWLY and continued.

I like winter riding. The MUP was a sheet of ice yesterday though. This is an old picture from my previous ride but it was much less messy. I barely needed the fenders.

Yes, I did. First ride of the year, first ride on the new bike, and first ride in about 9 months, so I took it easy today. I had some heart issues a couple years ago, and my wife was having some health issues last year, so I wrongly used her ailments as an excuse to not ride much last year. Shame on me, I know! Anyway, I did OK today and will be upping my distance as I ride more. My legs and hip are telling me tonight that I shouldn't lay off anymore. Re-entry is a pain (literally). As always, I loved my time on the bike and this new Kona Lava Dome fits me perfectly. We're going to have fun together!

LOL, the weather guess'ers said it was going to be 42 F and sunny but it wasn't warming up much at all. The wife didn't want to ride so I headed out on my own at a crisp 24 F. which for me is a COLD ride, with my gear level I usually won't ride below 30F and SUNNY with little breeze! Headed west on the Sinton Trail over to the Outlook off of 31st. Street to get a photo of the Fusion with the proper background!
You can see the COLD Inversion Layer on the foothills!
Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods Park from the Outlook, my RANS Fusion in good company!
I headed back down the street, nice 31.5 mph. down hill to get back on the Foothills trail, this goes along the outside of the GoG Park and has several nice views of a few of the different Red Rocks formations in the park.
A view of the GoG park looking north off the trail.
A view of the GoG park looking south off the trail.
Heading to the 31st. St. bike lane over to the Westside of Colorado Springs, stopped at a Wendy's for a small cup of HOT Chili and to warm up a bit, Covid-19 regs. have been relaxed to allow 50% customer in restaurants and fast food places, it was very welcomed and only a few folks inside! Picked up the Midland Trail heading into Down Town and stopped at the Colorado Springs Bike Shop to talk to the head Tech, Rocky about putting different shifters on the Fusion (currently uses friction thumb shifters, would like indexed trigger shifters!). As I left the shop, the clouds rolled in and it got even chillier as the HIGH never reached freezing at 31 F for the day! Picked up the Pine St. Greenway over to the Pikes Peak Greenway for the last couple of miles to our apartment. 15 miles RT, the weather guess'ers are saying we are getting Artic Air and deep freeze coming for the next few days, so I'll be stuck on the stationary cycle trainer, RATS! Glad I did the CHILLY RIDE!

We finally caught us a decent day weather wise didn’t we??? Walked 18 holes this morning.....a record turnout of guys showing up to play.
Had fun riding 40 miles on the gravel bike this afternoon. Mostly pavement but did a good bit of exploring different roads I rarely ride which were within 10-11 miles of the house.
Rode the newly opened Irish Buffalo Creek greenway which is about 3 miles long. I was able to ride it towards Kannapolis where’s there’s a bike shop and a brewery! Fun day!!
One of my cycling buddies works here and it’s Daytona 500 week.
Start of the new greenway
It ends at Vietnam Veterans Park
There is a short section of dirt just before the park.
A great local brewery owned by veterans.
A really smooth brown ale.
A good friend who was hit by a car last year. I try and swing by when I can.

No. It's five degrees below 0 Fahrenheit, snowing lightly, and -15 wind chill.

An easy 15 miles here in Western Colorado where brown is the predominate outside color right now. But just felt good to get off the trainer and outside. Sunny and 40 degrees. Two days after my first vaccination shot. What's the saying, winter miles bring summer smiles?

A nice 64 mile ride up to the in laws on High Rock Lake. Finally some sunny skies!! You could definitely feel the cooler temperatures riding through the areas where it was shaded.
I have an almost endless number number of different routes I can take from our house to the lake ranging from 50 to 100+ miles. Today I took some new to me roads east of Hwy 49 into Richfield which is always fun to do a little exploring. I’ll call it the “Gold Hill Bypass”.
Things you see on a ride.
Great longevity for a small rural church.
Lunch
These green potato chips looked gross. Not the way I prefer getting my daily dose of greens!!
Our NC Governor is Roy “Pooper” and not very popular right now!
Reminded me carrying these flags into vacation bible school while singing Onward Christian Soldiers

A short 22 km on the winter beater in conditions ranging from this:
to this:
Slush got onto my rear derailleur and froze making shifting very difficult.
So far I've done 600 km of winter riding in 2021; some spectacularly beautiful, some spectacularly cold and miserable, some both at the same time. Spring is welcome to pop around any time soon!

I planned to take an old Takara out today for a 1.5 mile round trip to mark a running path for our group runs. I mainly wanted to get a feel for it before I tear it down and go through everything. If felt good and I rode the old 1.125" skin wall tires that have probably been on it since the mid to late 80s about 4.5 miles before turning around to do what I originally intended.

Left the house yesterday after telling Boss Lady I'd be an hour maybe a little bit longer because the "feeling" just wasn't there. It's been a while since riding the Propel and after the first few minutes I knew a bit longer was going to be Super Sized. Blowing winds made for enough SW FL Hill Climbing to put a hurting on my legs and the temperature/humidity levels were conducive for a "Hands OFF the Water Bottle" extended ride so I rode an out and retrace back ride. Plan on adding 9 more miles to make a good repeat looping route hopefully for Saturday's full moon 100+.

Finally a sunny and warm ride after the week+ of Deep Freeze here in So. Colorado! Took a mostly Bike Lanes route up to the base of North Cheyenne Canyon Park, (the road to the top is closed to do bridge replacement/repairs). We stopped at the Starsmoor Center but it was closed so we just sat on a bench and ate our brown bag lunch. Headed home by Bike Lanes and Shooks Run Urban Trail. 16 miles, 50F sunny with just a breeze, LOL of course we've got cold and SNOW heading in for Wed. afternoon into Thurs. morning!!
Relive Video tracing our route!
