Lovely old bike. Thanks for the peek.

I have an old 531 Raleigh Light Tourer. I took the drops off and fitted Bullhorns. The Centre Pull Brakes were terrifying so I replaced then with Tekro long drop dual pivots. Much safer!

What do folk think of living (or dying) with old brakes?

1979 Trek 510

My basic training loop is a 20 mile ride on a path that heads north out of my home. The path has been closed off now for 2 years due to construction on the interstate and the path goes underneath it. I've been taking an "unofficial" gravel detour on that ride and the Trek with its 35c tires is perfect for that ride. The '79 510 is a full Ishiwata 022 frame and it's low temp silver brazed. I've been meaning to take the MKS Lambda pedals off and install toe clips and straps for a while but I still haven't gotten around to it. I do like how how big the pedaling surface is on those pedals, though.

59 is middle aged not old. If you're still out biking, then what does it matter?

sshakari What rims are those? In the late 90's I had some blue anodized Open Pro rims and they were really sharp.

This traditional English Audax was custom built for me in 2006.

I am 71 now and still ride it every day. I'm on my third set of wheels and various other components but it is still a joy to ride. Reynolds tubes.

The detailed photos Robin took when it was new are here.

Ah yes, I'm a long legged 6ft3in tall.

Got my FX 7.1 tuned up. The Marlin is in the shop for a cracked wheel.

Different posture, harder seat. Getting readjusted to her.

It’s strange. Everywhere the nose of the saddle is raised by the "duck". Eggs not pressing?

None of my saddles have noses so as to prevent any pressing problems.

How does any man ride with a conventional saddle in all the wrong places?

Raising the nose of a Brooks achieves the supremely comfortable hammock effect.

I had a Brooks on my bike when I was a teenager. I bought a Brooks when I was 50+ thinking I was treating myself. It is the most uncomfortable saddle I have owned in many a year. Will I break it in? I never did. Neatfoot oil? Made no difference. Bought an Adamo and never looked back. I have a Specialised with a centre cutout - that's quite good, but not in comparison to the Adamo noseless. I can even ride a short distance in baggy shorts "commando" on an Adamo - though I rarely do.

Every man is different.

My Marlin is still in the shop. Waiting for a wheel.

I've never seen a spoke pull out like this before. Of course the wheel rolls like a potato chip.
