I think a lot of pros were "doubling their endurance" around 1990... Clearly they must have read this issue!

This is a special request I'm making of myself for me if no one else.
I'd like to see that ad that mesmerized you when you first saw it.
I remember you kept turning the page back and forth several times muttering "Are you freaking kidding me?"
OK, here it is.

The adspeak in this is so virulently 1990s that it knocked me unconscious and when I woke up I was clad in flannel, acid wash jeans and a pair of Doc Martens. "COOL, HUH?"

Thank you SpeedofLite !

I am often deeply dismayed at the innumerable ways in which humans can so spectacularly twist the essence of a concept into something grotesque. The way that “sport” transformed into “a drive to win any contest, using whatever advantages are available, regardless of legality, ethics, or morals, and with complete disregard for negative consequences“ is absolutely disgusting.

Thanks! Looks like an unusually interesting issue, at least to me. 5 Canadian Tours would be fun to see.

Thanks, SofL. That is the very issue that inspired us to buy our first tandem a few days after it hit the newsstands. And we still keep it ready to ride.
As for the Paul Kimmage story, well, the rest is history, isn't it. Plus ça change. . .
