28mi fake race on zwift last night. not as much fun as real racing, but still a fun way to get in some hard efforts.

Ah, the lovely inland empire.

Pic #4 looks like a some fort that I may have constructed with my buddies, in fourth grade.

I'm doing an easy spin thing with the gf today. She's still getting used to skinny tires so we'll probably be going back and forth on a stretch of back road around here for an hour.

Tomorrow I'm doing like 2hrs sort of like openers.

Sunday I'm taking another stab at the power test at the front end of a 105 mile death march. Tis the season for nonsense rides.

Why are you doing that? To my mind, there is a season for self-flagellation, and a season for just enjoying yourself.

Meh, I like to bike. I also really want Cat 1 next year. Finally it'll justify the ice cream I intend to eat Sunday night.

Not arguing or trying to convince you to do something different, just observing that I can't relate.

I'm not aware of any physiological model that thinks your fitness in March is meaningfully affected by doing an extra 150 TSS in September, though.

32.5 min of EZ pedaling, just enough to keep from falling over. I've literally done more work in a single 4-min interval on Fiesta Island.

Recovery rides, how do they work???

I should post this in the 41.

2 hours @ 25% FTP is lower TSS than 30 seconds @ 400% FTP -- crazy, right?

Wait?! Isn't this the time of year where if you just want to go out & ride 105 miles because you feel like it that it's ok because it does not screw things up for a race you're prepping for?

(Coming from someone who also just likes to ride a bike and would prefer doing that to most other things she could be doing. Better than an XBox for sure. Which she has and can't imagine choosing over a 105 mile bike ride.)

(And also is on an opposite schedule, can't really justify the indulgence of a 105 mile bike ride right now.)

lol, my last one was in January so it's time is all. Most of why I aborted the one on Wednesday was cuz I didn't feel like hurting that bad for a full 20 minutes in mid September. The same thing might happen on Sunday in which case I'll just enjoy the ride.

I did something similar on Saturday, and the last half of the ride was pretty horrible. Mine wasn't even a power test, just a 20' interval up a climb. 2 hours of climbing, 20' interval, 3 hours home. I was cracked like I haven't been in a while.

Doing an FTP test at the beginning of a fun ride is like having an office party at the office. Kind of misses the point.

Last night during the training crit, I was able to bridge to the lead group of 3. It took all I had, and when I got there, it was 3 guys on the same team. One guy would pace hard out front while the other 2 would sit on my wheel, and then make massive jumps for about 10 seconds. All 3 of them did this for 2 laps, and I have no clue how I stayed attached. It was also pissing me off when they would talk about how to get rid of me....'bros...I'm right here'.

Is that a legit tactic and something that often happens at the upper levels? That was probably the first time I was in a break where it wasn't a cohesive unit, or a gaggling of guys trying to drop each other.

The positive thing is after eStalking these guys they race in higher category (and are podium contenders), so I don't have to worry about them next month.

indeed. I'm still a relatively a noob at power training (~1yr), so I'm having fun learning how this all works.

That's what I do on our Sunday rides, which all have 20+ minute climbs. I figure after a tough Saturday, 15 miles of z2-z3 getting there, its within .95 of my FTP.

@mattm and I got our teammate the district crit win this way, so I guess it's legit.

He attacked, Matt and I sit on while dudes chase. As soon as there is the catch, I attack and Teammate and Matt sit on. When I'm caught Matt attacks and we sit on. Rinse and repeat until they let someone ride away, then we just sat on and covered moves, then jumped int he final laps to take podium spots.

If they had 3 they should have been able to shed you in minutes, unless you're significantly stronger than them or they are uncoordinated in their efforts.

ZeCanon Intervals for 103 TSS. Thinking about doing another test for the beginning of October, but still trying to figure out the best approach to training for my last race on Oct. 18th.

Rode easy in to work this morning, when I arrived my NP for the 1/2 hour was ~160. Normally that RPE would see me at more like 140 or a little lower. Basically I'm sitting on a combination of good form and being really well-rested coming into the biggest event of the cyclocross season. It feels pretty great. I'll do some openers this evening, then it's GP Gloucester both days this weekend. The Cat 3 field is absurdly stacked for this race, but I have a feeling I'm going to do pretty well. Normally this is not a track for me, it's very much a power course. But I'm doing well on fast courses this fall. Exciting!
