Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

was supposed to be sunny and 65 today. Neither of those things happened.

Anybody have experience with time trial bikes? Buy new or used? could I just throw aero bars on the madone?

Coach says my next bike purchase should definitely be a TT bike. I am leaning more towards cycle cross if not the emonda. But I think I will just race the C2 for now. Thinking of use. I don’t see myself riding a TT bike for fun, and I don’t see myself doing more than one TT event. Crits and Road is more what I want to do. I would like to do cycle cross in the fall, plus I can use the cycle cross bike on gravel. Not to mention they are a lot cheaper than a TT bike.

They have a bit of a special edition of the Madone for just this use case. The only real difference, as far as I know, is the handle bars - the TT version comes with some bolt-on aero bars. I would imagine that you'd be able to buy them separately.

edit: it's called the Madone Speed. May have been discontinued, but again, look for the bars.

will do. I’m trying to understand the cycling race scene. He was trying to explain it to me, it sounds like I have to earn points by doing all three events, and I guess the points go to the team. I have things to figure out for sure.

The trek speed concept does look sweet, but I just don’t see hopping on that for fun, and the capital trail isn’t really clear until you get past Charles City.

Some people love riding those things. I am not one of them, but they are definitely fast, so I deal with it.

It’s looking more and more as though I am going going to need a Twitter “presence” in order to function professionally in today’s scientific “space,” in other words, ever hire another postdoc. Maybe this is a sign I should retire.

I was jst about to leave work, having completed a bunch of scRNAseq analysis, and I noticed a little distortion in my vision, just below my focal point and a bit to the left. "Is this another ocular migraine?" I asked myself. Spent the nex 5 minutes trying to see it, with little success. Just about the time I decided it wasn't, I realized that it is, indeed, an ocular migraine. So I guess I'mma stay here at work for a while. especially since it's decided to expand right into my focal point.

Should be gon ie in 20 minute or so. The first one freaked me right the f*** out, but everything I read on them says they're nothing to worry about. Just seems like a bad idea, driving at night while having one.
