There will always be improvements like cellphones, etc. I've been given permission by the semi-financial planner to replace as appropriate as long as I sell the current one!!!

Two months since the first ride on the e-MTB. The Odometer reads 1060km and the season total is 3333 km. Not bad for an Old Fart who has a few other Summer hobbies.
XC skiing starts on Friday (?) a week late since there was too much rain after they started packing the trails, but it should be good and solid for the rest of the season.
Weekly interludes on the wind-load trainer? only if the mood hits!

I have a quick question because I know nothing about E-Bikes. Do they have regenerative braking like electric cars?

There probably are some that do, but on our lower end models there's no mention of it in any of the three manuals.
Haven't come across it in the other manuals I read prior to buying, either.

AFAIK, regenerative braking is possible only with direct drive motors and the GMAC sold by ebikesca, and there are no mid-drives with it. It can be functional with a DD system, but some companies don't include it. IMO, it isn't a desirable feature since the amount of charge realized isn't enough to make up for the rapid change in motor "direction" (and effect on the motor and rear axle) when it's activated.

I waited until I'd had a bypass and a pacemaker and reached the age of 85 before getting an ebike. I'm now sorry to have waited so long! My Specialized Turbo Vado has been a revelation. It's light, responsive and looks and feels like a regular bicycle. I only use it in ECO mode. Well, okay, I had to try it in the middle and Turbo modes, but just to see how it felt. I sometimes don't use the assist at all when on level ground. So the range is very high when used in this way,
If the above sounds like a Specialized commercial I apologize. I think many of you under age 85 should consider an ebike!

Well, you can still bike in the winter!
I use my ebike more in the winter than the summer. I use studded tires, and used to hate them because they were so heavy and slow. But ya know, my ebike doesn't care if I have studded tires or not. I'll guess the range is probably less with slow tires (in the cold), but I can easily do summer speeds on my ebike in the winter.

At 70, I am confident that an e-bike or 2 are in my future. But for now it just doesn’t feel right. I could (should?) sell several vintage bikes to keep it cash flow neutral.
Not sure why I am waiting. Maybe a future house downsize will fit the timing.
But at the right time it will happen.
I will want a lightweight ride for road & light gravel. Should be easy as my vintage steel ‘lightweights’ are all above 22lbs. I foresee tires going from 25mm to 32-35mm.
My brother bought his/hers Specialized e-MTBs a couple of years ago - upon retirement - but he never mentions riding them.

Only a few do. It takes a big investment to make it work right, like it does in cars. In my opinion, for bicycles, it's of little use, when most ebikers are riding at bike speeds, and complicates the electronics for users.

He’s only 75, but he doesn’t ride manually powered bicycles - so there should be no reason to wait. But he’s a ‘busy man’ and never cycled as an adult. Which is great for him. Big brothers never listen to little brothers when the age difference is more than 4 years. And big big brothers even more so. Such is life.
