Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I would be ascared. The longest descent that I know of around here is about 200 yards, and I can get to about 30. Any more, and I'd probably go full wuss.

Nice thing is that they are in the process of repaving that street. Just hope they don't chip and seal it as that would ruin it. It's a long country road popular with our types that has a bunch of rollers.

Big John and I live next to a fairly significant mountain range featuring lots of fun roads. You learn how to turn your bike. The guys who are really good at it are pretty amazing.

Nice!

Fun thing is the perspective makes it look like you're climbing. To my eyes, anyhow.

Run it at 2x, and it'll look like one of SAFA's videos!

Yeah, I would think so.

I think I have about 1,000' of climbing this year, if that tells you anything. Actually, average 20 mile ride ascent is between 140' and maybe 800'.

The camera position relative to the road is the same, regardless of the incline direction. If you want to make it look like I'm climbing, run it at 1/4 speed.

Here is someone's Hwy 39 descent which doesn't include the top section, or the bottom which has a couple climbs. Those climbs are a lot more significant when your legs are weary and you've been descending for 20+ miles.

Wow. That's REALLY flat. A 20 mile ride in my area is almost always going to be more than 1000', even when I'm trying to do a "flat" ride,

I once reached 1,027 on a 30 mile ride.

Another 30 miler about that same time was good for about 150'.

Crazy challenging, I know.

There are some areas will more elevation changes. Just not where it's logistically easy to get to for a ride on a regular basis.

I don't like long climbs, but I will take them over a strong headwind any day. The only time I wanted to get off my bike and cry was because of wind.

Alas the casa is booze free ATM. Need to get some Maker's for the egg nog (we got a jug of fake nog - AKA nog flavoured oat milk), and some tasty porter and/or stout.

That's what's fun about riding in bam's back yard/my in-laws - flat roads with few intersections. My average speed is always a couple mph higher than in MN.
