Shouldn’t Weinmann 610s Work for 27” Wheels?
Brake blocks on both the front and rear are at the bottom of the slots and the rear is unusable. Am I doing something wrong? Very low mileage one owner bike and I’m pretty certain these are the original brakes.

Yep 610 fronts/750 rear was very common for a long time. I'd take a round file and take out a bit of material on the bottom of the brake calipers. You don't need to take out much material to make these work.

You might consider a 750 for the front as well, so the pads are closer to the top of the slots. Any chance you mixed-up the brakes from two different bikes while you had them off?

A set of koolstop continental brake pads will improve noticeably improve braking. Dia Compe grey matter brake pads are good as well.

Cool. PM incoming.
This is the only pair of 999s in the house. The PO must have gone through tires pretty quickly and soon got tired of it as all the wear and tear on this bike is from moving around in the garage.

My 1979 Peugeot UO9 came with 27" wheels and complete Weinmann C-P brakeset having Peugeot branding on the calipers
The front 610 caliper barely makes it to the rim, and both pads are all the way down in the slots even after a bit of filing!
Rear caliper is Peugeot-branded 610 as well, which reaches the rear rim with at least a couple of mm to spare.
The bike came to me in bone-stock and dirty/used condition, but I doubt that anyone ever even worked on it. It had been donated to Salvation Army.
Shown here with the alloy 27" wheelset that I used to replace the steel-rimmed wheels, along with a few other mods (saddle, post, 6s freewheel, chain, FD, lever hoods and SPD pedals).

i ran across a 70's something batavus years ago. it was a very large frame! but, both the front and rear required the longer reach centerpulls. i'd never seen that before, either.
