I guess since 1971 they must have moved CO Springs from North of Denver to South of it.

I got a chuckle from the last letter to the editor.
That the difference price between Stronglite, Normandy, SImplex, et al and Campagnolo is nonsense!

And Reynolds 1531...that's one I never heard of.
Will you scan the story about cycling on Taiwan? In March of '72 my wife and I were in Taipei, in the last weeks of her pregnancy. I have memories of the 'street of stolen bicycles' and of low end bikes that didn't come close the the quality of the Raleigh Sports 3-speed I had owned 10 years previously. I had little interest in cycling at that time, but a fellow student talked about a bike trip on the island, which never happened because the day he planned to set out was the day a taiphoon hit us.

The photo of the bike in the Eurocycle ad with the seat as low as possible just looks off to me. I guess I've seen too many craigslist and facebook marketplace ads of tall bikes with the seats slammed like that.

Thanks a lot! Brings back all sorts of memories, including the ideology, politics, etc. (An advocate of Taiwan independence lived under house arrest around the corner from us, until he escaped from the island; his guards sat in a jeep with at least one flat tire.) Taipei itself was in a flat basin surrounded by hills/mountains, so heavy 3-speed bikes were OK, but it took strong legs and lungs to get out of the basin. With the hot, humid summers, it wasn't ideal cycling for me. We lived on Taiwan for 20 months, and I think adding up all the buses and taxis we took, transportation still didn't cost as much as repeated cycles of buying a bike, getting it stolen, and buying it back from a seller on the street of stolen bicycles.
I always appreciate the rides down memory lane. I especially appreciate this one.

I like the answer man regarding brakes in the rain suggesting to use worn chrome rims rather than alloy.

Every time you do this for us I have to say thanks, you're providing an invaluable service. Please keep this up, it is incredibly enjoyable to read, and the "Question Man" one in this issue where he responds that the writer could buy a bike from Alex Singer cycles was neat to see.

And I think we all benefit from BF members' conversations and comments that add wisdom, spice, humor, personal experience, and factual corrections to the substance of these articles.

I cringed at the “stow-a-cable-lock” ad. Drill a hole through the seat tube? I guess. Perhaps the intended market was lower end bikes.
