WTB 5 speed 14-32 freewheel
Looking for a decent Suntour or shimano 5 speed 14-32 freewheel to go into my 120mm spaced vintage Frejus. Specifically looking for 14, 17, 21, 26, 32 cogs which I believe is a somewhat common gear range. English thread of course. Thanks.

I just made a 13-14-17-21-26-32 freewheel out of a corn-cob Shimano 600 FW and a 5-speed Shimano version of the FW you mentioned, so it is possible to creat them, but you need Sutherland’s to make sure everything is compatible. Eventually, I’ll be relegated to making some weird cassette with spacers. Sigh.

There’s a guy, Scott D, on ibob or 650b over in the google groups that imports Grand Bois. I actually asked about them last winter and availability was thin, but he could get them this spring. They are pricey, but would somewhat future-proof your bike.
I also bought some 7s and 8s cassettes before Covid that made this half-step drivetrain. They don’t have spiders so can be disassembled by removing the rivet that holds the sprockets together. It’s hard to find a 17t sprocket, but I found a cassette with one:
SRAM Pg-730 7 Speed Cassette 12-32T (12-14-16-18-21-26-32)
Shimano Altus CS-Hg31 8 Speed Cassette 11-30T
The 8s 11-30 contains a 17t sprocket!! Simply remove the bolded 16-18 sprockets from the 7s 12-32 and you now have a 6s 12-14-17-21-26-32 cassette! And at $12 on sale, the Altus cassette was cheaper than sourcing a single 17t sprocket.
Sadly, I’m not even sure these cassettes are made anymore, they were closeouts on Jenson. They are listed as “out of stock” on most websites. I’m not sure if this has to do with the global bike/parts shortage or if they are being phased out. (Shimano also made a 12-32 7s but in black.)
As you may know, 7s and 8s are pretty much interchangeable. I like to make sure and measure the overall width of the spacer+sprocket when mixing and matching brands as well (especially if it’s SunRace, who also make 8s cassettes without spiders). But this seems to be workable (in theory).
Now I just need a good hub that isn’t black or disc-capable to make this work on vintage bikes…

I may be set with a Schwinn approved model J made in Japan 14-32 that I have. I undid a snap ring and took off the inner shield that protects against chain drop on the dr side. I have a very nice 14-32 Suntour narrow 6 speed that works on there nicely with a Shimano light action long cage rd from the mid 80s. While vintage, it isn’t what I wanted on the 64 Frejus.
I want to mount a Suntour V-GT Deluxe on this, and the one I have is set up for the hanger that is integral with the rd for bikes without a mount. Did they come any other way? Problem is mounting this rd to the integral hanger on the bike requires the jam nut mounting to be inboard of the dropout limiting the freewheel width so as to not interfere with the chain. I think this Schwinn 5 speed may work. I assume that the “catch ring” held on by a snap ring that I removed doesn’t hold the sprockets on.
Gearing will be my 144bcd Superbe 42-46 half step with this rear setup. Stock was the 47-50 front and a 14-22 rear. Ouch, I couldn’t do that gearing 40 years ago.

If you’re still looking, I found a couple of 5-speed freewheels in the bin w/ 14-17-21-26-32 configuration. One Shimano, one SunTour. PM me if interested.

PM coming. I am interested. The old Schwinn one didn’t work as the flange still interfered with the lock nut. The Suntour and Shimano may also, but I’m guessing maybe not. Lots of room on another Shimano I have on another bike.

Both seem mechanically sound, and have minimal wear. More info, pics, if you're interested.

Sorry for forgetting to post earlier, but I was taken care of by @nlerner with 2 freewheels. I ended up using the Shimano even though the Suntour is more period correct.
Thanks all.
Thanks all.

Thanks all.
A nice feature of the Uniglide sprockets is they are reversible. Worn sprockets can be reversed and you have new teeth!
