So there I was on Zwift, tooling around Watopia, minding my own business as I warmed up, planning as usual to do a spin-down as soon as I reached 10 minutes, when the C. Cadence Pace Partner group swarms past me. So, based on WhyFi's suggestion, I took off after them. For a group rolling along at about 2.5W/kg, they took a surprising amount of time at 300-400W to catch! But I settled down into the group, and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to stay with them. Previously, I'd had difficulty - first I'd overshoot the group, then I'd back off too much and they'd pass and drop me, then I'd chase back on only to overshoot again - lather, rinse, repeat. I guess I've gotten more used to slight adjustments in power, the occasional mini-surge, etc. Rode with them for 10 minutes, then they went one way and I went another.
I'd forgotten that if you did start out choosing 'Ride With Pace Partner', you'll just keep doing whatever route you chose, and so will they. So stopped the game and restarted, this time choosing "Ride With C. Cadence". Average power for the 43 minutes I was on was 191W, which means I spent a lot of time at the threshold of Z2 and Z3. I suspect it would be easier if I turned 'Trainer Difficulty' to zero, so it would just be constant resistance. But where's the fun in THAT?

It can go either way. The conditions outside can be inconsistent (because of traffic controls, weather, terrain, etc) so it can be easier on the trainer to knock out a hard, even effort. On the other hand, many see a drop in power for whatever reason, whether it's a lack of fresh oxygen, inadequate cooling, the lack of a sensation of speed to provide motivation, etc.

Mrs datlas and I went hiking yesterday and I took a sharp branch to the forehead. It's left quite an impressive mark.

One of my mechanic friends had his Golf seize up at highway speeds, after rapid oil loss. Of course, it was one of the coldest days of the year.
He's a good mechanic and takes care of his vehicles, but likes to upgrade things. Apparently, a fitting broke.
Naturally, I still roast him about this incident.

BITD when I lived uptown and worked downtown I would read the Times in transit and dream of the day when I could retire and get to read the whole paper every day. Heh heh heh heh, how silly was that. That spare time quickly and effortlessly was filled by other stuff. Sadly, I think I read even less of the paper now.

As far as the drops go, I've already got about as many bikes on Zwift as I have IRL! If I'm just riding on my own, what "bike" I'm "riding" doesn't matter that much. Once I start racing again, I'll pay closer attention. But right now, I've got the Canyon Ultimate and the Aeroad, and the DT Diecuts you can get at a pretty low level, and those make a pretty good pairing.

I thought the noob mistake in hiking was letting go of a branch before the guy behind you has hold of it, so it smacks HIM in the face? Sort of like suddenly standing up out of the saddle in a paceline, causing the guy behind you to touch wheels and taking him down.

I called Garmin today about issues with my vector 3 pedals suddenly dropping all of the time. I expected the answer to be tough luck due to them being out of warranty- instead, I’m getting new pedals in 2 days at no cost to me.

What I found was that, yeah, I'd start leaving her behind when the road went up, because I just naturally start pushing harder, and I have to gear down and mind my watts. Then when the gradient turns negative, one tends to naturally lighten up, and if you do, then she'll pass you. As long as I kept my power between 160W and 210W, I'd not only stay within range, but largely stay in the same place in the pack. One thing I noticed was that the pack would surge head of her sometimes, and if I stayed with her I think I'd lose draft advantage, but then other times she'd surge through the pack, never quite to the head of it, but at least into the mid-front.
As far as the drops go, I've already got about as many bikes on Zwift as I have IRL! If I'm just riding on my own, what "bike" I'm "riding" doesn't matter that much. Once I start racing again, I'll pay closer attention. But right now, I've got the Canyon Ultimate and the Aeroad, and the DT Diecuts you can get at a pretty low level, and those make a pretty good pairing.

I've riding my old Merckx with power meter pedals and I noticed that my power output, my average speed is the same as my carbon bike. There is about 7lbs difference in the bikes.... I don't get it.
I wanted to build up a steel bike, but there were part problems supply etc.. so I bought a 90s Merckx which now blows my mind.

I have a CF Bianchi which weighs about 18 lbs, and a steel Battaglin which weighs maybe 22 lbs. As far as I can tell, they're equally fast over the same roads.

With no power data, it's a shrug of the shoulders. Not that I think there'd be a huge difference, but the noise floor is certainly higher without more info.

I did have fun with my '40km time trial' riding this summer, where the Canyon was the fastest by about 0.3mph average over the course, and the Battaglin and Bianchi were tied for second.

genejockey was the inspiration for getting it back on the road. Oops. I just realized it's taken from the wrong side. Oh well. It has.a 64xx crank, and a mix of derailleurs, Suntour VX on the rear and some random Shimano on the front. Brooks Team Pro saddle. I don't know when I will get the chance to test ride it. Possibly this late afternoon.
