Killed My Kurt Kinetic Fluid Trainer....How's Their Warranty?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Killed My Kurt Kinetic Fluid Trainer....How's Their Warranty?

It finally happened, my Kurt Kinetic fluid trainer seized up and is no longer usable. I've submitted a warranty claim on the KK website, but was curious if anyone here might have had any experience dealing with KK on something like this? Any advice or stories on your experience in dealing with KK would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Warranty is lifetime....their support was great when I needed them. I used email and also spoke with them. How did you kill it? Mine didn't die, but started making an odd noise. The replacement had a subpar runout and caused vibration...they quickly swapped that one out too and sent me UPS return labels.

My old CycleOps leaked. It was replaced for a new unit (perfect, after 3 years of heavy use). The KK has a reputation for being almost indestructible. I guess everything breaks.

Thanks for the replies. A bit of an update, I heard from the KK folks overnight in response to my warranty claim. They asked one question, to verify what was wrong with the trainer, then told me a new one will be sent out today! Amazing customer service!!! they don't want or need to 'old' trainer returned to them, and they didn't need a copy of a purchase receipt, as they had the serial number and verified me as the original owner from that. I am VERY happy with Kurt Kinetic!

I crank a lot of miles on the trainer, particularly in the winter, when it's snowy, icy, miserable here in the northeast (connecticut). I've had the trainer for 3 years and averaged about 6000 miles a year (I crank roughly 20 miles a day on the trainer, with one day a week off - winter or summer, then also do rides out on the road in the spring / sumer / fall). the bike and the trainer have roughly 18,000 miles on them. I've replaced everything that moves on the bike at least once (multiple times on the chain and tires). I'm in no way whatsoever fast, I'm just persistent. Oh yeah, and I have no life.

Anyway, judging by the customer service, the great warranty, and the excellent product, I highly recommend spending the extra money for a Kurt Kinetic trainer if you're looking for a trainer. They certainly treated me right.

Send in Pcads name with it and I'm sure they'll send you 10 new trainers, one for every 10,000 posts here on the 41.

I burned out bearings on my KK road machine. I replaced the bearings then put in 100 ml baby oil. Works fine, but noisier now.

Huh. I've had my KK Road Machine for about 8 years. I don't know how many miles it has on it. Not as many as the OP I suppose. 6k on Zwift, maybe a similar amount pre-zwift. It didn't occur to me that it could break. I have noticed that the rear end gets hot after a workout.

I guess I'll find out. If it breaks, that would be the impetus to finally get a smart trainer, I think. Even if KK would give me a warranty replacement. I guess KK has true smart trainers now also?

I am kind of thinking yours was defective. I have 7 years on my KK smart and man at least 10K miles on it and its turning like it did the day I got it. I am waiting for it to die so I can get a direct drive version but wont get ride of it until it either fails or starts leaking....I don't see either of those things happening anytime soon. such a good product IMO.

Since we are talking about Kinetic Road Machines.

Without knowing anything about trainers, I bought a used Road Machine for $20, the seller told me it didn't work but I thought I could fix it and I did, I think it was dropped and the bracket that holds the roller/flywheel assembly was bent. All I did was pound the bracket straight with a hammer. Then for about another $40, I bought the In-Ride 3 sensor and a few other ancillary things got this thing working great for under $100 put over 5000 Zwift miles on it with zero issues.

But alas I desired a smart trainer so with much fear and trembling I purchased the Kinetic Control Power Unit refurbished upgrade, I have none of the issues some say they have with this thing even after about 3000 Zwift miles.

True I could have for about $50 more purchased a Wahoo Kikkr Snap but I wasn't sure I would like trainers and such. I would classify the Road Machine as a workhorse.
