You know you’re a dedicated C+Ver ....
When you click on an ad for a Specialized Allez in your size and you’re profoundly disappointed to see this.

Yeah, that thing is badass by all modern standards, especially for having an alloy frame set. But I'm also no longer really tickled by such things.

Especially when he billed it as "rare". That's the same thing as saying "collectable Tupperware".
THIS is Specialized Allez

THIS is Specialized Allez

Bugs me that the various manufacturers recycle model names like that, especially when the originals were so unique (e.g., Konno-built Allez).

In this context, "rare" simply means lightly cooked. Just enough to get aluminum to melt (or even rarer - resin to set). Now a silver soldered steel frame, that is the rare taste we die for!

they say '60 tv shows were so "campy," and you immediately think, '70s Suntour was so much better.

I've done that! Usually no response even if your best effort is to inform. I find most people don't give a crap. Super Record or Record are not correctly acknowledged. I quit doing it. It goes nowhere. Joe

Funny you post this, I just saw one of the older ones in an antique store recently, for $200! If I weren’t touring, I’d like to have scarfed it. The one I saw had early Shimano LX derailleurs with RX100 brifters & calipers. 👍

Side note: Researching the Allez I came across this old thread which includes some comments from a few guys involved in the original build and development of the line. Pretty interesting, especially the first 3 or so pages.

A nice ‘87 Allez popped up on CL an hour away from me. I contacted the guy but decided to pass for now until things settle down.

You know you're a dedicated c&v'er when ...
You shop hours and hours online for leather straps, but you're really not into any kinky ****.
You quickly excuse yourself from your weird neighbor saying you need to put on the white hoods you just got in the mail, and you found a bit too much satisfaction in her confusion.
You're dedicated!
