Rake in the face - reminder - DON'T DO IT!
yes, this really happens in real life, not just in cartoons, IF YOU'RE DUMB ENOUGH!
busy day Saturday, lots of errands & some yard work. hastily leaned my rake against our fence. I remember saying to myself don't leave it facing out like that, take the time to turn it around (but I didn't)
then much later, after tons of other stuff, just after dark, I was rushing again to finish up some yard work & hastily reached for a tarp & stepped on the rake, then WHACK!
right in my face (on the bridge of my cheek) just missing my eye 
go ahead & laugh, it's OK, I'm OK, albeit quite embarrassed. funny tho that ppl don't ask about it. Lord knows what they are thinking ...
the bruise has progressed quite a bit in the past 3 1/2 days

thanks, but yeah, hurt like an SOB! really dazed me! shocked, I immediately felt my face to see if my eye was intact. I saw the brown wooden handle just before it hit me, so my eye was open & looking right at it. wobbled inside & found a bag of frozen corn (which by the way, is not nearly as good as frozen peas) laid down & texted Wifey while holding the bag over 1/2 my face, which she didn't read. got home & asked "what's wrong with you". the bruise wasn't that bad (at the time) so she wasn't that shocked. I quickly realized my eye didn't need the frozen bag, cold eyeball! so I kept it lower. I think if I didn't work Sunday & rested with on/off ice packs as recommend for bruises like this, the bruising wouldn't be so bad now. but Wifey was like, "it's not bad, go to work" ... lol

Confession time: As a teenager I did it on purpose to see if could really happen like in cartoons. I found out the hard way that it could.

tell me about it. had an annual physical a few months ago & Doc looking at a black & blue on my arm, asks how's things with the Wife at home? I was like, um fine, that's from my 2nd job at the home improvement center lumber/bldg material dept.

I got a black eye yesterday that looks worse than the OP's. I woke up Friday morning tired with the intention of going for a bike ride. Decided to take my dog for a walk instead. Dog trips me and I do a face plant on concrete. It could have been worse, but still feels terrible. I hope it looks better before work on Monday. It would have been safer if I went for a bike ride.

That's what I did for Halloween costume at work 2 years ago. Wife and kids weren't impressed. Coworkers like it though

oh man, use an ice pack as long as you can. frozen peas are best wrapped in paper towels. tomorrow too. it will get worse but the on/off ice packs will slow it down & minimize it. I should have called out the morning after I got mine to rest w ice packs, etc. go for a ride tomorrow if you're up to it, advil or tylenol is ok for pain. but keep the ice packs tonight & tomorrow. not for pain, to slow it down. 7 days later & still have it

Having had several black eyes in my line of work, it's always worse the next day.

Yep, been doing an ice pack over the last couple of days. Felt okay to do a 40 mile ride yesterday. Since Photobucket went bonkers I haven't found another photo hosting site yet. Not sure you want to see a pic. I dread going to work tomorrow and having to keep answering about my face.

just remembered this thread cuz my Sister just stabbed herself in the eye w/ an ice pick, well actually, just missed her eye w/ an auto ice scraper. sorta the same .. she's OK. but don't do that either!
