Trash Panda Works “Special Projects”

So the folks in the front office scheduled another project to run concurrently with this one so now I feel compelled to work on this rather than wait until after the holidays.

I already cleaned up the frame, installed a new HS and found a seat binder. I have some small parts on order like cables etc.

I had this bar/stem combo, Kalloy hybrid style and Nitto B115, earmarked for another bike but it will go on the mystery bike instead.

Mono planer brakes wif fresh Kool Stop blocks.

And of course there is a snag. Who would have thought a frame built in Xxxxxx out of Xxxxxxx tubing would have an Italian thread BB shell. Of course I only have and English BB to fit the cranks I want to use.

so now I have to hunt down a 112 ISO symetrical Italian BB.

I’m not sure this Centaur is going to stay on here.

So of course 10 minutes after we move the mystery bike off the line Amazon drops off some packages including the brake cables.

Now on the line is the Red Proto to get a major reworking

You gotta quit dinking around then, step up and step out.

I always look for deals but when I found something I wanted that I knew enough about when i started here, I didn't hesitate, got after it and got it done.

Sure I paid a bit for many of them but glad I did, I have several bikes I would never find again, especially the Merz's that are each custom one of a kind.

Also have plenty that were a great deal, maybe some of it evens out, or not, no matter, again I have several that can't be found for less than crazy $$$$$$ and I didn't pay crazy for any of these IMO.

The other key thing IMO is the prowess that can come along with this journey, a lot of the knowledge to be had is a bargain for the often meager POA. You have to work at it too, know your limits but don't cheap out to your detriment, sometimes it is expensive but there is always something to be learned.

90% of this bike thing is really a pretty good deal especially when you consider the fitness aspect that you often can't buy for several times the cost of this deal.

Well I only buy stuff I like and right now a lot of what’s in the spares bin is from frames I sold a few years ago.

BG,
I am doinking around with the Ochsner build and have yet to decide whether it will get the chrome treatment from Shelbyville Polishing & Plating. But it came with a Shimano sealed bearing BB that is being replaced with the NR from my last Ochsner bike. I can send it out priority and from Bloomington, to Ft. Wayne it should be one day in transit. I tried a NR set of arms on and it has about 1/2" clearance on both arms at 170 length. 115 overall spindle length, 20mm spindle on drive side and 23mm on non-drive side. It will only take a few moments to pull it out and put in a box. Send me shipping addy and I'll get it out right away. PO closes at 3 today so it may have to wait until Monday to go out. Lemme know, smiles, MH

So far I am finding Italians in 103 lengths. But have not dig into the alternative stash.

Funny you should say that. There's a red Midget on my cl barter section. 🙂

If only I had an extra Harley laying around to trade. 🤔😁

Been a slow week, being back at work and all, but a few parts and some bling have been trickling in. The skewers have a metal gripper surface.

It’s interesting that these Ti single key releases came with no instructions. The last set I bought, from Speed Metal around ‘91ish, came with instructions telling you to not use the bolts to actually tighten or remove the cranks because they can stretch. So much for single key release. I didn’t weigh the collar but the bolts are 8 grams each on my kitchen scale.

OH I got some yellow cork ribbon too.

EDIT: It's 112mm from the vertical face of one side of the spindle to the vertical face of the other. It's... kinda... symetrical? One side is a mm longer than the other.

I'm assuming it is ISO, as I don't think O.M.A.S. made a JIS tapered BB.
