Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

IMO, it's a FoMO. Goes a long with the phrase, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should". Logic/commonsense can get lost when someone "wants" to do something.

x2.

If we wanted nice people in a competitive setting, we'd have a professional sport paying a high wage dedicated to those aspiring to be the MVP ranked at being the best role model.

Watch this. Lemond and Hinault.

You are a bad man and should feel bad.

Of course he also wrecked the entire thing, so...

I’m thinking Zwift racing could be my wheelhouse. I’m a big guy, particularly in cycling terms. My power output is pretty high, on an absolute basis, but very pedestrian if you look at on a w/kg basis.

But put in 130 pounds and 5’4” and am pretty friggin fast.

If you want to be genuinely competitive in Zwift just stick to flat races like you would IRL. Of course you could easily cheat in Zwift by morphing into a 60 kg mountain goat, but then your wins would be completely hollow unless you were deluded. I think this is actually why most normal people don't actually try to cheat on Zwift, as you are only cheating yourself unless money is at stake i.e. pro competition.

Put the tandem on the trainer with your stoker working, and you could be world class!

There was a pair that did that on a Computrainer in Boulder way way back when I lived there. They were bonkers fast.
