No. There aren't enough of them to go around. But I understand the envy.

I doubt you have 20 bikes and the ones you own are ridden hard although they are probably not put back wet like mine.

I enjoy reading actual test results, like the kind from the German magazines. I don't think I have ever sold a bike but have no problem buying new technology, my first carbon bike was in 1985.

A lot of things keep me from riding more...Namely other hobbies: Trout fishing, grouse hunting, snow shoeing. Then there is bad weather and work. I do a fair amount of trout fishing between the months of March and November, but I do still manage to get about ~4k miles per year between fat bike, road bike and mountain bike. Tonight will be third time I ride this week and I plan to ride tomorrow night as well.

Yeah true. I tend to only keep 1 or 2 bikes at the most per discipline. Currently just have the 3 bikes in my sig. i.e. 2 road bikes and 1 mtb. I'm planning on selling my spare road bike as I haven't ridden it since I bought a new one this season. I kept it as a back-up over the summer, but didn't need it.
My bikes tend to stay mint with minimal cleaning as I generally avoid wet or muddy winter rides.

A burrowing instinct and dread of being colder than I already am.

I have occasionally taken a shower before I ride, because it warms me up and gets me accustomed to cold sensations at the same time. Once I'm out, I'm fine, of course.

Time. Regardless what Mick Jagger said, time is not on my side! At least until I retire this coming June, then time will be more on my side for riding a bike, not for living though, since the older we get the closer we get to dying so again, time is not on our side!

Mainly weather and family time. This past summer was incredibly hot, so I didn't make it out much on the weekends. And sometimes it's hard to justify spending time going on a long ride on the weekend when there are things around the house which need to be done, or else my wife wants to do something that day.

sounds like its time to separate, and get a new-ish condo on Maui. Problems solved. Your welcome. When can I come visit?

Responsibilities. Working full time doesn’t leave much daylight to do what i want. I’m also a weather weenie. It’s beautiful out but I’m too sick to ride. Respiratory thing.

I am old and retired so the usual work and family don't apply. Back when they did I just got up at the crack of dawn and rode in the dark or whatever it took. I did my highest mileage years when I had the most pressure for my time.

These days, I might miss days here or there because of the heat and hit the rowing machine. Usually just getting an early start and riding before daylight is cool enough even in the Tallahassee summer. I guess surgeries have made me miss periods of time, but not that often and not recently.

I have done other activities that took me away from riding for a while for periods of my life. There is life other than bicycling.

I'm beginning to see that short 1-2 hour rides are the answer to escaping from the usual responsibilities of life.
Not every ride needs to be the epic type. Riding harder for a shorter duration will be the new normal.

Ride

I strive to Ride one day and Fish the next. They are very complimentary. Both can be relaxing in their own way. Fishing day is termed “ Recovery Day”.
Bike day is “Flogging Day”.

I'd love to ride more . My dog that I brought into my life is very high-needs. Not sure what she'd been through but had spent much her life in the animal control kennel.
She goes ballistic when I leave her alone.

For spouse and I to ride together is not possible. Unless we bring the dog along. She's too slow, likes to lope along about 8-9 MPH .

Have to keep rides fairly short- have health issues (digestive in nature). Got to time even short ride very perfectly.
And the extreme cold , makes very difficult to train.

I'm a hero come warmer weather , but this cold and rain has got me rolled up in a ball in the corner.

Some legit reasons not to ride , some just poor excuses . I'm also training as a runner and find getting recovery time a problem and deciding when to ride and when to run.
At times I try to do both and find myself devastated after running AM followed by late afternoon ride.

Have 3 bikes . Road, hybrid and XC trail. At this rate the bikes will all outlast me. I might say a stronger runners high from the running than cycling. Chasing that means less time to ride my bikes.

Edit* today I rode a hard but short ride on hybrid. Put out about 80% effort and later looked at my garmin - only hit 125BPM . Almost without exception every run I go on will at least hit 135BPM 140BPM with moderate effort.

Just one of the reasons I favor running over riding. Seems easier to get in hard workout in less time running instead of riding.
What might I be doing wrong? I'd cycled and ran for decades in my youth .

What else keeps me from riding more. Until this evening it was the cold . Found my old wool full- face baclava ( a little overkill for mid 40's) and neoprene booties came today . Cold feet no more , what a game changer.
