Estate sale Trek 520
Picked up this small purple ‘91 520 at a sale today on the cheap.
Way too small for me but I will clean it up and see if a friend wants to try some touring with me this summer.

through a series of sorta random events all coming together in a short period of time, i wound up driving just under 4 hours round trip and brought these home. they are both incredibly filthy, need to be completely gone through, but the price (even including the high gas prices) made them a nice catch, and i met a super nice seller too.

Going to buy this in a few hours. It's cheap enough that the barcons/triple are worth the cost, but I have a hunch it's something decent...

OK, it's not vintage and I didn't save IT from the dump but it may have saved my old rusty truck from the dump. A guy stopped a couple weeks ago and wanted to know if my old truck was for sale. I had been pondering what to do with it and was considering parting it out and scrapping the body. He noticed all my bikes and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. A bicycle my size and cash for my truck and all the spare parts I had accumulated for it. He seemed to want my old truck pretty badly so who was I to deny him? Of course I'm replacing almost everything on it ASAP with Deore XT and upgrading the fork with an air fork but I LOVE the color.

Wow, My hunch played out with a nice British buider. It looks like it had been a higher end bike that was "upgraded" in the 80s to (Suntour) index shifting and a (Shimano) triple. Original parts appear to be the Campagnolo downtube guide, pedals, and NR hubs laced to 27" MA2s.

I haven't had a chance to dig into the archives to figure out the model or age. It's surely 531 (or better). Campy dropouts, 27.2 post, and very light. Here's the serial if anyone is interested.

I just started work at a co-op. Some of the things I see destroyed for some reason or another is astonishing. I pulled this out of a truck headed to the scrap yard who thought they stop by the co-op and see if any of it was worth saving.

Here is a former frame of mine, I sold this Peugeot Super Competition a few years ago. It was purchased by someone who is one of the forum.
He sourced most of the parts from me as well, what was not from me is the stem, saddle and wheels.
Hmm, I think he needs an Italian next...

Just bought this shockingly light (25-28 lb?) hi-tensile steel road bike for $70! It's a Panasonic Sport Deluxe I would guess is from the early 1970s. The brakes work great and the saddle is incredibly comfortable. It seems to fit me (5'10") great as I think it's a 23" or 24" frame. I can stand just over the top tube. It has a Shimano Titlist rear and Shimano Thunderbird front derailleur. Looks like it just needs a good cleaning and lubing. Can't wait to take this for some long rides in Maryland!

Free!
I stopped by the LBS today, and in the course of chatting with the owner we stepped into the back room. I mentioned I was keeping my eyes open for an older rigid mountain bike - wait, is that an old Trek?
It was, a 20-in 820 that had been badly converted to single-speed.
“Oh yeah, a guy brought it in wanting brakes and drivetrain repair. I called him back with the price and he said, ‘keep it.’. It’s going to the dump unless you want it.”
So I thanked him and bought a used saddle for another project for $5. On the way out he showed me a customer’s 80s Centurion that was in for a makeover, and when I said,”save the bar tape for me,” he grabbed a screwdriver, loosened the bar plugs and helped me unwrap it.
Love the LBS!

1976 Super Course Mk II. It's a mess as you can see. The wheels are mismatched and one is pretty thin on the brake tracks, most of the aluminum is oxidized and THAT saddle! But the frame and fork are straight and dent free and these NEVER come up for sale around here in my size in any condition. Plus, it was cheap enough and close to home.
