First, to those who are not in the know about Minneapolis, we are one of the great biking cities in the US!
To answer a few of the questions....
Is the room heated... yes, climate controlled.
I did not picture the bike wash, it's just a small little tiled area with hot/cold water hoses.
There is no assist to get the bike on the racks, I suspect they offered the ground racks for that exact reason.
There are no floor drains at all, but the room is well ventilated, so rarely have I ever seen standing water.
These photos were from a few months back, hence the lack of fenders.
As far as how the building came to fruition. Well, first of all, I work for a very large corporation that is based in Minneapolis. This facility houses 5,000 employees. Many believe that they built it from the ground up to be a sort of "flagship" facility. There was something like $300,000,000 spent on it. The building is LEED-Platinum certified, I believe that is the best available certification for energy use. My company offers excellent commuter benefits; discounted bus or rail passes, for example. They are becoming more and more progressive about the health of their employees. I don't have a ton of details as far as who designed the bike facility or how it became a priority, unfortunately.
And YES we are always hiring!!!

That is a superb parking facility.
When my company moved our office to an existing building, we talked them into having new bike racks installed in the existing parking garage - so it's covered, and visible, and well-lit, and has the racks that I picked out... but it's not as secure as I'd like. There has been some theft - including my saddle bag with repair stuff in it.

That looks really awesome, I'm a little jealous. My bike parking is completely secure, in a free private parking deck within a gated compound with 24/7 security -- but bike parking is way in the back.
What seems odd to me about your bike area though is all that smooth concrete, I would expect like a grated floor so any water from rain or snow could just trickle away, and not be a slip hazard.

Now I'm curious. As a former employee ("team member") of big red... This looks like it might be Target...? I worked @ HQ in Finance until 2012. They had built an amazing dedicated team member facility across the street from HQ a few months before I moved out west. Is this a new facility or add-on by chance?

penn state policy is if the janitors see a bicycle in a building, they are supposed to call the cops to issue a ticket. It's just being anti-bike, their reasoning is if there is a fire people will take their bikes. There hasn't been a fire in the 20 years I've been here, so I'm not sure how they would know.

so they are growing.
My company built a brand new complex in downtown Minneapolis and we ended up with some awesome bike parking. We have a separate entrance which leads to dedicated bike storage, there's a bike washing station (not pictured), as well as free air, tools, and a vending machine that sells tubes/water bottles/etc. Then of course a full locker room with showers and lockers. Anyways, I hope you guys don't mind me showing off, I figured it might be of interest to the forum.

I would just be happy if they installed a real bike rack at the Y I go to. There are these U shaped things they claim are racks but they look like parking space car stops to me and they are so wide I cannot get a U lock around them.

Mine does the same for the most part but they are learning. Never give up. Last year we had horrible none bolted down racks and not have 2 bike boxes in the parking lot and lockers in the men's room specifically for bike commuters.
so they are growing.
@edparks that is really impressive. Nice looking facilities.

You are right, there is still hope. But at 60 years young time is running out; either they get with the program or I will retire.

I work a couple blocks from there. Can't complain about my bike parking, but showers would be nice.

Oooohhh! Fancy!
We have something similar on a smaller scale for our campus bikes...though we have to pump our own air The bike wash station and the vending machine is a nice touch.
For our personal bikes, they have either lockers for the chosen few, or outdoor racks, so I park mine in the stairwell underneath the sign that cites NFPA 1.something.something saying I can't do that.
Regardless, nice digs!

Very impressive & encouraging to see all the bikes using the facility. Before retirement, I worked for state of WA. there were 102 employees at our location, but just 5 or 6 bicycle commuters. Only 2 or 3 of us in Winter. At 1st we could park our bikes near the vending machines in the hall outside the stockroom. Later we migrated them inside to our cubes. We got lockers & a shower in 1 of the men's room plus kept a pump there to air up if needed. Pretty crude compared to your setup. Don

Very nice. Great to see stuff like this happening.
There are bike racks that double stack, are very efficient space wise, and rolling the bike on to the upper level is easy enough that my wife can do it with her 40lb city bike. They're very common in northern Europe. I'll try to find a photo.

BTW, the only issue I've experienced is someone putting a cruddy wet bike on the upper rack and it dripping down. That's only happened once and everyone around was quite surprised as people just never do something that inconsiderate. Fortunately not the end of the world.

Bicycle commuting to a LEED certified building everyday? Must feel great. Awesome bike facility. Should encourage more employees to give it a go.

It's nice to see such impressive images of bike-supportive facilities! My firm recently renovated space to locate our offices downtown. We desired LEED Platinum and have enough core riders to make good use of a bike room for 10 cycles, with a separate entry, showers and lockers. Indoor/outdoor carpet works well. It would be nice to add a tool station and fixed pump.
