Off topic, yes, but I have a question about the electric locomotive featured in this beautiful photo. Note the little cloud of condensed water vapour ("steam", although not really) right in the middle of the locomotive, between the two crew-access doors, down near the tracks. What is this? Not from a steam dynamo, surely, since electricity for lighting and A/C for the passenger cars is being taken off the overhead wires. A boiler to provide steam heat for the cars, maybe? Any experts out there care to illuminate?

And a motor makes it so that any inexperienced/incompetent rider can ride "dangerous and too fast". Where you really have to try hard and train regularly to ride a non motorized bicycle too fast, and by the time you've done all that training you are not inexperienced...

Update!
The previously mentioned coworker had reported the error to Van Moof, and they replied today: "error 16 means something is wrong with the motor. Our Bike doctors will need to have a look."

Ask him if it's a Windows or Linux bike. If Linux then 16 means "Device or resource busy". Probably his motor saying, "Not right now, I'm busy. Go pedal yourself."

No effing way. I'm entirely fine with the idea of conjuring up insanely obscure physical tools for retired dockless ofos, but I'm not fine with the idea of conjuring up proprietary software tools for anything on two wheels.
Open source or nothing.

He has indeed been told that he needs to ship the bike to Van Moof, and that, in order to do so, he would need The Box. If he doesn't have The Box anymore, they will send him A Box, so he can ship his bike, after which the Bike doctors can fix it, and the bike will be returned.
This is going to take a while.

Methinks Van Moof needs to implement their self-driving function on these bikes so they can drive themselves back to the factory. And stay there.

It's actually most likely old lost/discarded fishing gear from the fishing industry that is most likely to negatively affect marine life.
