Sold bikes that I miss having around…
Sold it for fair money…didn’t ride it that much…kinda matched my ST600…a lot of work to ride outside of it’s narrow job description…I miss having it around though..

Though I got a good price this past spring — $550 fully kitted, incl. both wheelsets w/ good rubber, Monkeylights, and Garmin Edge 500— This ‘04 Novara Big Buzz was my trusted companion for 16 years, carrying me through thick and thin. It was my SUV, ready come sun, rain, or snow, and it was fun to ride as well.
I dunno what I was thinking exactly, but probably something along the lines that I have 2 or three other bikes which can serve the same duties. Turns out they can, but only sorta.
Oh well. It was a great bike and I miss it often.

I sold this one early this year to a guy that needed some transportation. This was a fantastic bike that I converted from drop bar cross bike to a flat bar commuter. Great bike, but I was not commuting anymore since I changed jobs in 2019 and was working from home, so it went to someone that could use it.

Found this SL tubes Miele for $20, and ended up trading it for a bike my son could ride. Best bike deal I ever had.
This Viner was a size too big so I donated it to the co op I was working at. It was a beautiful bike.

I tend not to sell my bikes. The money an old bike can get doesn't even begin to dent the hole of a new bike purchase. So there's no financial incentive to sell an old bike that's sidelined by an upgrade.
I keep them around for guests and as a back up/beater. Granted, there may come a day that I have more beater/backup bike than I can use. Then I may sell them, or donate them to charity. (I don't change bike often enough, that's part of the problem. My current stable has an average age of about 12 year -- ranging from 10 to 15)

Same here, my newest is 30 years old, and except for one, have all been built up by me, starting as a frame. Not planning on selling any of them, so no regrets, unlike a few sports cars I let go, definitely regret selling those..

I have yet to miss a bike I've sold. I sold them for a reason(s) and that reason(s) outweighed keeping the bike.

I miss my GT Edge which I had parts custom anodized a medium blue. Only sold it because I stopped riding in college, but started up again after graduating and never had as nice looking bike as that one.

Relocated to New Zealand in 2017. Had to sell all three of these. But managed to replace all of them with bikes I love just as much.
The Softride hurt the most as I had done 3 major tours with it. Was going to do the Transamerica in 2017 so I upgraded from the original RSX comps to Ultegra and Deore. Increased the gearing from 3x7 to 3x9. Went from 7 sp 12-28 to 9 sp 12x36. Had Phil Wood bb and hubs laced to an Omega wheelset with DT Alpine 3 spokes. The rear count was 48. 36 on the front. They both were laced with a 5x pattern. Sugino XD600 26-36-46 crankset. But, it went to a good home for a good price to good people who really had appreciated the quality of the upgrades. So, that was gratifying.
The top is a Fuji Del Rey fixed conversion. The middle is a BD 2007 Motobecane Fantom CX 2x9 I had glass blasted and powder coated. Upgraded all the comps. These two bikes were my primary commuters. Also had a Univega mtb used w/a trailer for grocery and laundromat runs. Gave the mtb to a friend of mine. They're all missed. Especially the Softride, but their replacements ease whatever pain the separation caused. Bikes have a way of getting under your skin while they're under your bum, hey?

I rode that from Boston to Portland, ME, then took the boat to Nova Scotia and toured there for a week. Camped 90% of the time. I sold it when I got my Raleigh frameset and built a bike for racing. Eventually, I sold the Raleigh as well, and I'm still kicking myself over selling both of them.

Sometimes I miss my old, ‘02 Lemond Buenos Aires, which I sold back in ‘15 for a song. I don’t miss it so much because of the ride or because it had a special niche, but rather because of nostalgia for days past. In it’s later years, it had the spring trainer role, so I remember a lot of hard, windy, rainy days on it. It’s also from a period when I was moving more fully back onto the roadie scene after many years MTB obsessed, and so the bike recalls epic rides where I was getting chewed up on the local group rides and just didn’t have my junk together.

Yea that thing was the bomb. I changed the cassette from what is shown in the pic to a 11 speed 11-23 cassette, since I have no hills or tall bridges to cross, so in the summer, when the winds generally came out of the southeast and at my back, I could easily reach speeds of 25 to 28 on flat roads. I could make it home faster on my bike that if I drove my truck, so it was perfect. I would go in at 2 am, so no winds to deal with most of the time during the morning.

I did the exact same thing for ‘93 Fat Chance Yo Eddy! I built up! AC post, rims, handlebar and cranks I had polished and anodized gold at a place called Rose Plating. Man, I wish I’d thought about doing the headset!

For me, the anodizing place told us it was the same price for however many items fit in the tank, so we started seeing what else we could toss in there. We actually did two of those bikes (one for me and one for my brother). 4 rims, 2 pairs of cranks, 2 headsets, 2 seatposts, and 10 chainring bolts.
