I grew up in the Hudson Valley of N.Y. about 70 miles north of the city. It was a rural, agricultural area then but much less so today though I have family there who are farmers. I have always been captivated, even as a little boy, with boats. Rhode Island is a sailing area with yachts from all over the world in summer. It was the most natural thing in the world to make my way here for sailing and boat building.

I grew up a bit further north, Schenectady. My idea of boats were what passed through Lock 7 on the Mohawk. And that wooden barge with the 5hp outboard Dad would rent on vacations in Ontario. I know better now. I've had several nice breaks there in Bristol, by the harbor, at the end of the East Bay trail. Park at Indian Point, picnic lunch in Bristol, back to Indian Point then on to the Cape. Nice town. Great boats there too, and at Woods Hole, Vineyard Haven and Edgartown.

But not this year..........

Road riding is just fine if you know the roads in this area. You can get out into some rural areas fairly quickly. But it’s really flat. I have rolling hills where I live so while you might have some hills to climb there are times you can coast. At the beach you’re always pedaling.

Riding on the beach itself is very nice. I will take my Mountain bike and ride along the water in the packed sand. The island is 7 miles long.

I stay away from the boardwalk since people don't know how to keep 6' away. But they extended the MUP for another 10 miles so it's 38 miles round trip.

I once delivered a boat from Sodus Point on Lake Ontario to Long Island Sound. I had no idea New York had such an extensive canal system. Not just the Erie Canal either. It seemed central NY was riddled with canals connecting the finger lakes. I thought then it would be fun to rent a house boat for a few weeks to just poke around those canals. It is no longer active but there was a canal between Kingston and the Delaware River via the Esopus Creek. Canals were a major means of transporting goods just as they are today in France and for a time Great Britain.

I would love to people watch from some of the beach trails I read about in southern Calif. Riding my trike I could stop and sit and watch anything that catches my eye.

I remember my first visit to a topless beach. Nice, France in 1985. It was not as "picturesque" as I had imagined it was going to be.

Lol....reminds me of a boat trip in the Greek Islands while on honeymoon with the "wife" in 1992. Had no idea the boat was a ride to a Clothing Optional beach. It was not very pretty sight (mostly)

My imagination (stupidly) told me that only people with fit bodies would dare to remove their tops.

Old age and gravity does NOT improve the sight seeing.

Remember after 60 years and gravity, that eagle on your back will become a buzzard in your crack

That's not me. I'd rather bring only what I need and rely on my wits and explore a little to get other stuff.

The only thing I look for in a crowd of people is someone "watching" everyone/everything around them and don't have their nose stuck in an electronic device.

TMI, dude. TMI. BTW...They make "undergarments" for that sort of problem. Or maybe you could cut a whole in your pants, replace your bent's seat with one of these and be good to go.
