Dynamax Concorde - a Grand Record in all but name
I've just started work on this sad thing:
And I started research on the Dynamax brand. Other threads here on bf agree that Motobecane was prevented somehow from selling their bikes in Canada under their own name, so they just rebadged them as Dynamax. That is certainly the case here, this is an exact match for the 1973 US catalog Grand Record spec on bulgier's site.
But the Dynamax brand has other history than just that. Gaston Cholette's "La coopération économique franco-québécoise, de 1961 à 1997" states that sometime between 1945 and 1955 "dans le domaine du cycle, la societe Dynamax s'implante au Quebec"; referenced in this post is also a good deal of other information:

Anyway, someone obviously did a terrible job repainting this. They masked the head and downtube and seattube decals, removed seatpost/seat, the bars and brakes, and the rear mech - and rattle-canned the rest; rims, spokes, cranks, pedals, headset, everything.
So it's getting a re-paint; as all of this is coming off and it is going to be reborn as a proper Grand Record in that much classier black-and-red scheme. So far after about 10 hrs the frame and wheels look like this, lots of little flecks still on the spokes and the frame isn't sanded yet, but most of that work is done:

Having stripped down a few Motobacons myself, they prove to me that the French could make a high quality, high volume production frame if one told them they'd only get paid for those that met certain quality standards. That brake bridge looks well done.

Are you using rattle can paint? How long to dry before you can mask over a painted surface?

Hmm...I always thought a minimum of a week or so was needed for paint to set. Good to know.

That was my first thought, but I don't think it is/was one. It was masked, some parts were removed, then painted, then re-assembled. Who would bother with that for a ghost bike, and having visible branding on the frame would sort of detract from a ghost bike message I think.

Looks great. The gold lug lining really makes a big difference. So were those chrome socks okay under that white paint?

Built and just went out for 5 mins on it.
A few things still to tidy up, need two lengths of shiny housing for the front and rear mechs, there are *still* little flecks of white paint on the rims that are suddenly plain as day once I've decided I did that bit...
Yes, it's too big for me.
Here are specs:
Crank is a Nervar Star triple, 38-47-54, fw is Maillard 14-28, chain is a Sedis.
Pedals are Spidel (Atom) 600 with some platform converters.
Rear mech is Sachs-Huret New Success Touring , front is Sachs-Huret Pilot Triple and I could *really* use another one for a Gitane build...
Brake are Mafac racer.
Wheels are original, Normandy Simplex Competition with Atom skewers, Weinmann 27" clinchers, Panaracer Paselas.
Post is ITM, saddle is a San Marco Rolls.
Stem is Atax, bar is Guidon Philppe Franco-Italia, with poly sleeves from a Motobecane tandem.
BB is a cup-and-cone Stronglight/TA mix, headset is some generic far-east (Neco?) cartridge unit.
I don't know where I got this stop, it's a bit more substantial (agricultural?) than the Huret one but I didn't (still don't) have one of those:
This is a really nice front mech, it's the version with the cable stop.
These cable clips are stainless from a seller on that auction site, they seem laser cut and there is a bit of a sharp edge that needed knocking off:

How do you like those derailleurs? I'm planning on using those shifters and rear derailleur (Huret racheting shifters, Sachs Huret new success RD, and a Huret FD) on a 70s Mercier 300 I'm rebuilding.

I've only been on it a few minutes, they worked fine. Both are almost new, very nice tight motions, the Record rear that was on it was well wobbly and (part of) the front is still sitting in alum waiting for the adjustment screws to disappear. Lots of wrap is nice. Ratchet shifters are nice, especially if they have wingnuts for dialing in the friction.

Porkchop BMX also has a lot of colours of housing, some shiny; I got some red and blue for a few bikes from them. Nobody seems to have green chrome housing, if you know of any let me know...
