Garmin "Livetrack" Anybody using ?
Just got my first Smart phone, after using a dumb phone for decades. I'm going app crazy. I can't wait to try out the Garmin Livetrack.
Anyone using this app ?

Absolutely. I ride alone a lot of the time and it's great for my wife to know where I'm at if there's ever a problem. One of the best bits of bike tech there is.

It is a nice feature...catch being is that it ofc needs cellular service to work. And depending on your locale and carrier-you may well have none when you want it or need it.

Good point. I have cellular coverage all over my area, that I ride. Yep, I'm 70, and my cycling in the country scares my wife. I'm not the type, when alone, rides along, looking at pretty flowers or girls in bikinis in backyards

Last year I think, riding in the Sandhills in Nebraska....Tour de Nebraska instituted mass text-alerts for riders to get ride/event updates. While well intentioned, it was hilarious. ALL cellphone service was so bad up by Valentine that those SMS were delayed often by many hours if not days....and of course no bars at all out on the roads. Not even Verizon is out there.
That reminds me, I rode the first edition of BRAN back in 80, 81ish. But, cell phones weren't an issue. I can imagine, out , away from the population, there is not much coverage. KB.

My wife tracks me in the iMessage app on our iPhones. A lot of people don't know that it can do that.

It works well, and has basically no cell battery drain.
The downside is that with glitches in coverage you can essentially stop for 30+ min, so it's not ideal as a "call an ambulance" tracker. It's more like a "from place X, it's about 90 min until I'm home, start dinner".

On our iPhones my wife uses Apple's 'Find my Friends' app to track me. It is free.

Whenever I have used these tracking apps, they drain my phone battery badly, to the point that the "safety" gained from the app, is negated by the likelihood that my phone will die on the ride.

battery life has been minimal when I use it, I loose more playing music through my Bluetooth speaker. I have a couple battery packs I can bring if I feel I might need a top off.
