Smile DFW Retro Ride and Picnic - Oct 4, 2009

Hey riders,

It's almost time for the 2009 Retro Ride and Picnic, so start polishing the old beauties. This year we're planning it for Sunday, October 4th., at noon. We're thinking about holding it at Flag Pole Hill, near White Rock Lake. This will give us more room, and we can reserve it in advance. Joanna and I will make the final decision this week. We also may even make a schedule and stick to it this year. I anticipate being in worse condition this year than last, so I probably won't go on the ride. If anyone is interested in leading and sweeping the ride that would be nice. That way I can stay and keep an eye on the bikes, and possible add to my collection .

We'll start a mailing list for anyone interested in attending and have more details soon.

David

Hey Jerry,

This weekend I was planning on adding a information page to our website, so maybe wait until next week and I'll have all the information by then. Last time I talked to Hans, he said that it sounded like to fun, and maybe he'd like to come up for it, but unfortunately I don't think that would happen.

Hey David,

Sorry I forgot to get back with you on that. My mother fell and broke her arm last week so I've been dealing with that. I spent over four hours at the various doctors offices just Monday so I've been stretched to the limit.

I'll talk to you soon.

My attendance depends on if I'm still broken, recovering from being repaired from being broken, or possibly still waiting to be repaired.

I"ll be able to guard the cooler while everyone else is out having fun on the path.

Ugh.

David, I'm in. May make a full day of it if the weather cooperates. Anyone want to start in Allen or Plano and make a good long ride of it? (Before I commit to any starting locations, I'd best look at routes and length of the ride...)

How far is the distance you will be riding? I may come up from Houston for this one. Also can you define if there are any rules regarding classic?

We finally got more picnic information on our web page, at www.southwestframeworks.com Feel free to repost to the local forums, the more the merrier. Joanna and I did a ride from the pavilion to the lake the other day, so it's still possible with all the construction. If anyone has any questions or comments please get with me. I'd like to find a ride leader and sweeper, as based on the ride the other day, I think I will opt to stay behind and clean up!

I hope to see everyone there, and please RSVP!

David and Joanna

Hi David, I the wife and I were thinking about stoping by but our bikes are a tad newer then '84. The wife has an '85 Schwinn Paramount and I have an '88 Schwinn/Wheaties Team Paramount. Let me know if these will fit in.

Here's the route I plan to take (south of 635 is just an approximation; I'll be on WRT)

https://tinyurl.com/l3ohk6

Let me know if you want to meet up along (or not far off) that route.

"Just as last year, this is intended for vintage bicycles. That usually means built before 1984, but we'll consider anything before 1990 to be "vintage"." - per info on Southwest Framework's website.

I'd love to be there, and will try to convince the wife to come, too. I'll probably ride the Colnago, but the wife will be on her Biomega Amsterdam, as that's her only bike.

edit:
Got a text confirmation from the wife that we'll be there.
