I donít have any chainrings that size to try but there looks to be enough clearance for 60+ using my maths which might not be correct? there appears to be about 25mm extra radius clearance at the chainstay with a 53T on so that would equate to 50mm extra diameter and each tooth increases diameter by roughly 4mm
So 50/4 = 12.5 and 53+12 = 65 so you might squeeze a 65T on but anything more might require spacing.

Not sure if this applies here, but I have dug this out of my storage unit. Bought it from a nice guy overseas who is/was a member here with the parts to go with it. I didn't find any info on this forum. I will post it completed in the C&V section.

Oh sorry just looking back through this thread just realized it's current racing rigs - which is a pretty kewl idea - wasn't trying to step on that - I do dig old track bikes but I see too now - not the focus here. Peace n love

Went from a 130mm to 140mm stem today...the 140 is +/- 6ļ while the 130 was +/- 10ļ. I know there is a calculator somewhere to compare the angle, stem length, and actual reach...I'm pretty sure I'm not getting the true extra cm from the 140.

If you want more reach you could start by putting your hands all the way into the hooks?

I've heard legends of 15cm stems, but never actually seen one in the wild. Part of the problem is that modern bars have really short reach compared to old-school sprint bars, which have way too much drop for kids these days. A good compromise, if you can find one, is the 33cm Alpina bar. Not too much drop, but generous reach. I have wanted one for many years now. Also tilting your bars up effectively lengthens the reach. The bottom of my drops are probably at around 7˚ or so for that reason.

There is a "long stem" movement that seems to be present in some track cycling circles (Velobike comes to mind) with some offerings from 150mm to 200mm, stem lengths. I think that is extreme, but for someone who (a) doesn't want to (or can't) change bars; (b) TT length (effectively frame size); or (c) only wants to drop $50.00 on a used stem and see how that goes...I think going a tad longer in the stem department is a reasonable option.

Yeah, plus if you are running "big races" you will eventually run into problems with the UCI rules on bike set-up if you have a crazy long stem. Longer top tube is still the best fix.

You'd be surprised. Any kind of masters national race (not sure what country you're in) is likely run under UCI regs.

3T makes 150mm stems. But they are not available in the US. I had to order mine from the UK. If you keep an eye on it, they go on sale for about $40 pretty regularly.

I can only speak to since 2019, but US masters nationals hasn't required compliance with UCI geometry restrictions except for record attempts.
Not that that necessarily means anything for what happens in the future...

unfortunately itís still to have its debut on the track.
has been used extensively on the rollers and the Lemond Revolution feels stiff responsive much like itís predecessor but fits better with a longer reach.
a crash in December and Covid in January has kept me away from the track .
