Vuelta Corsa SLR wheels?
I was looking at Nashbar last night (due to the 105 carbon bike thread) and saw a pair of Vuelta Corsa SLRs for $217 (rounded down from $217.49 for those who care about such things) (could also round up to $220 for the purpose of this post, but for the sake of brevity let's not).
I had been waiting to buy some Campagnolo Zondas, but these were so cheap (even rounding up) I had to try them. They will be replacing the stock Mavic Aksiums on my CAAD12 105.
Any thoughts about these wheels? I see lots of past posts about other Vuelta Corsas, but not much about the SLRs.

In general you're not going to see much of a difference from your aksiums save the weight change.

The weight difference was mostly what I'm looking for.
The Aksiums are said to weigh 1880g.
The SLRs are said to weight 1467g.
That rounds up to about a pound for $220, or down to 9/10ths of a pound for $217.

Mine were terrible. Hub started going out within a few hundred miles, spokes made weird clicking noises.... They're also hyper-narrow, so if you're used to wider rims...
I sent mine back to nashbar. Never done that before or since, but mine were quite awful.

I appreciate you really making an effort to be accurate in your pricing - even if we're just talking about pennies.
Because, you know...some cluck here would have called you on it and sent this thread off on a typical 41 tangent.
But I recently replaced my stock wheels on my CAAD 10 with Fulcrum racing 3's (which are comparable to the Zonda's, I believe). I like them - so far, so good.

I called and Nashbar says the item # you sent is nonexistent ... I am buying the others unless you can tell me how you ordered yours.
I have Zerolites and Corsa Lites but I know even though I am clyde and they are very light wheels I have never had any trouble with either set ... despite whacking a couple major potholes at speed.
These are supposed to be a few mm wider than the Corsa Lites which I would prefer ... also i hear the Corsa light has an aluminum body and the SLR is steel--for the same weight.
I have a set ready to order. I will see what I can find for a price on Fulcrum 3s and unless they are a super deal ... i trust Vuelta.
I have looked at a lot of reviews ... some folks love them, some folks seem to have problems. I guess you roll the dice .....

I see the SLRs are 2mm wider than my Mavic Aksiums. Woohoo!
ETA: If you find some Fulcrum 3s anywhere close to $217 (even with significant rounding) buy them. The cheapest I've seen are over $100 more.

Yeah ... that is how it was about two years ago when i went wheel-shopping. I'll let you know, but the Vueltas always seem to be the lightest for the least .... I can go a little lighter for a couple hundred more but it's not worth it to me.

When shipping each wheel we ship is ~5 or 6 lbs each box. Blame the packing materials. Also sometimes weight is quoted as dimensional weight.

I thought Vuelta stopped making the SLRs. Anyway, I've put several thousand miles on mine and had no issues other than a broken nipple.

I've had those wheels and also experienced broken and severely corroded nipples. Cheap components, short lifespan. I had a cassette stuck on so badly I never thought I'd get it off. By the time I got the cassette off, the freehub body was not worth using again. I got what I paid for..

That's the beauty of anecdotal information. Both stories can be 100 percent true and completely in conflict.
I have read a lot of reviews from various sources. Some folks write glowing reviews, some folks say they are decent value for the money, some folks say they are garbage from the start and get worse.
net information gained = -Zero ... or ... whatever suits you best.
I have two sets of Vueltas and just ordered a third. if they turn out to be bad, I won't ever buy more.

In general, it seams that the corsa lite has better reviews than the slr...regarding durability.
I went with fulcrum racing 7 myself, and have no complaints, and like the 17mm inner rim width. 7s are around 1750g, 5s are 1645g, 3s are 1555....depending on your budget.

No matter. I am thinking my next build will get 50-mm carbon aero wheels and disc brakes so i will probably be supporting the Chinese communists some more. (For communists, they are darn good at capitalism. )

In the end I only dropped .485 pounds.
They came in yesterday and I finally got the tires on tonight. I didn't weigh all the components but I weighed the bike before and after. 8.92 kg to 8.70 kg, but I also replaced the tires at the same time.
My bike is one hamster lighter.

I just took the hamster off. I know I will feel stupid if I need it and get stranded without it, but I will accept the risk.
