My cyclocross bike has a 34T small chainring and a 36T big cog. Even with me riding that'll go up just about any (short) incline for which I can keep my weight properly balanced across the wheels. Of course, not a lot of vintage rear derailleurs like 36T cogs, and the gear spacing to get there with a 6-speed would be miserable.

Pretty tight half step but really not much closer than 42-45. I don't cyclocross though. When I do anything that looks like cyclocross many things have gone wrong.

By then the tire is already deflated…half the effort!

Well, it's really in the nature of cyclocross for things to go terribly wrong.

But @droppedandlost is correct about what I failed to describe clearly: 46-34 up front, 11-36 in the back.

No, not me. That's the kind of thing that happens in Portland area Halloween cyclocross races.

As long as everyone's having fun, and no animals get hurt. 😁😉
