Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oh yes; I just have to take the plunge, so to speak. Mrs. Badger (retired RN) administered the first 40+ injections first time around. She is currently away at our summer place, so Badger must simply htfu.

I'm not quite that bad, but I understand.

Missing the obvious answer, wear the socks only. If Ms Trsnrtr is in vicinity still need may to make a mad dash unseen. IF raining/wet outside then you made the right choice.

So the reason for repeating flu shot annually is partially due to decreased immunity but also due to antigenic shift (the strains change).

Lots of research into a universal flu shot that will target part of the virus that does NOT change seasonally.
How frequently do they push out updates to address the hot new strains? If it's pretty regular, giving them more time, to monitor what's spreading, might be a good reason to wait a couple months (unless you're at an increased risk for whatever reason).

Well the public health folks are always monitoring strains that are out there. But they all get together each spring and look at wild bird migration patterns, the strains that are around, and decide on what strains to recommend for the following year's vaccine. That's my simple explanation, it probably is more complicated in reality.

Reason for the injectable stuff for now, as I understand it: its effects end as soon as one stops the daily injections, so safer for now while they make sure my head/brain remains stable.
So I was here, and just don't remember. "Just"!
Edit: That was inside of two months from my late June/early July concussion, and might have been wiped out. I recently sat down with my wife and we reconstructed the past 15 months. I had a fair bit of difficulty with some of it. I ultimately wrote it all down and was able to come up with the concussion time only by deduction.

Could be worse: wearing scuff type bedroom slippers to the grocery. If I did that, I would find the locks changed when I got back home. Even wearing the slippers to drive to the drive-thru postal collection box elicits derision from Mrs. rpen.

Now I'm at a crossroads. It's time for my next cold pill, and I'm feeling pretty good, relatively. But the next one isn't due til 10 PM and a lot can happen in that part of the day/evening. I've always been one to err on the side of more medication than I need rather than less. I have always been a big fan of cold medicine. Bottoms up!
I'm also a big fan of Echinacea and goldenseal tinctures, and have been drinking it, mixed with water, steadily for the past 24hours.

Websters dictionary recently admitted 80 new words into the official english language, among them was TL;DR. Probably inspired by the 41 I would think.

I recall your mentioning that a while back -- not pleasant, and pretty disconcerting I'd think. Doing better now?

I was very lucky re. the brain thing -- never really became symptomatic, though apparently I should have, given the severity. Mrs. Badger recalls early symptoms confirmed as consistent: periods of 'vagueness' and lapses in short-term memory; irritability. But as neurosurgeon put it -- 'can't believe you haven't had a full-on seizure.' I do have some minor residual brain damage (scarring) as a result of it all, but absent a recurrence I should be fine ... so they say.

Not to self.
Under the influence of cold medicine, DO NOT:
Operate a motor vehicle, chainsaw, or other power tool
Ride a bicycle
Wrench on a bicycle.

I mistook a freewheel for a cassette and, having only one chainwhip, rigged it in the bench vise. I think the forearm will heal, given time and judicious care.

I had to do that for 2 months after my accident back in 2006. I was hit by an SUV and it smashed my tib/fib into pieces. I had major surgery to install a rod inside my leg from knee to ankle, a plate installed, and many screws to hold me together. 2 percocet and up to 10 oxycontin a day. Plus the blood thinner shots to the stomach. Good times! Luckily the needle for the thinner is small and it rarely hurt. Sometimes they stung more than others, but you get used to it. Better than the alternative anyway. Good luck with your health and healing!
