Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I like it as well, but find I have to make sure the stand legs are really tight since it puts the weight further outboard.

I got it because all four of our bikes are crabon and was flummoxed by how to mount them safely.

I remember reading good things about Dean Ti bikes, BITD. And 750 is what I basically paid for a frame, headset and BB, since the rest of the kit was worn out. Mind you, it's a Litespeed Ultimate. I think the Dean rated right up there with the midrange Litespeeds, when new.

As far as the magic of Titanium? I can't tell if there is any such thing. Somebody said Titanium bikes are the best steel bikes, and I think they have a point. It's not that different from steel - lighter, doesn't rust, rides great - but not a giant leap different.

so my wife’s bike doesn’t have enough seat post to clamp……..

My solution, I ask my neighbor to hold her bike up while I work on it. He’s retired so I am doing him a favor.

I still feel a little guilty about the Litespeed, and I bought that in December. I don't feel guilty when I ride it, though.

I don't think ANY frame material is "magic" and most materials we use are viable. My suspicion is that since Ti feels like steel but is lighter and won't rust, along with its relative rarity/eccentricities, has given it a bit of mystique.

Why not ask your wife to hold it? Report back here when you're done.

I think the mystique comes from the fact that not only is it lighter and won't rust, but it won't asplode either.

I think, back in the 1990s, before CF technology had really been developed, Titanium was deemed the most effective way of making a lighter bike than steel. CF was in its infancy and not many companies were working in it. Aluminum was either noodly if standard diameter or harsh if oversized. Titanium allowed bike builders to make lighter bikes using the same basic design as steel.
