Raleigh made a Maxim and a Max MTB BITD. Maybe that's what it is. It appears to be a UK model.

That is it. Look at the braze-on shifter guides on the DT. Harder to see the back end braze-ons...

Seypat, Brilliant!! You got it spot on, as looking under Raleigh Maxim photos there it is. There is even one for sale here in Uk in the same colour at £95, although it certainly looks a lot cleaner than mine at the moment!
