So although i have posted a little bit on another thread, here is our Eroica California Journey from Louisiana and some steps along the way.:-

Part One.. The journey In.
4:00 am New Orleans Airport oh Dark Thirty.

coming from Louisiana we didn't have high expectations of a foodie experience However!!

Country Fried steak hash browns and three eggs and a biscuit made the 2:30 am wake up more tolerable and it was excellent..

Petroleum Distillate is up there.

Part Two.. We made it the first night in Cambria.


That Coastline...

Pelican Inn was very nice.

Next morning Breakfast on main street excellent.

Ann's Trek 613 back together and ready for a test ride.

My last minute change to the Pug Super Comp now back together and also ready for a test ride, concerns for my corn cob gearing are starting to bother me.

Our smiles after 5 miles into a 21mph headwind are totally fake..

We got there and it wasn't bad we left early to avoid the head wind.

Gary12000 I'm looking forward to building up the International and am quite sure it'll meet my expectations! I see that you called the 1951 Humber Beeston Clubman your "favorite," so in case you didn't notice I had the good fortune of riding all the way back from the lighthouse in the company of old Ted, the fellow who owned and rode that one for the Piedra Blancas route. One of my photos shows it there along the bluff overlooking the ocean - it was good to be in the company of one of the only other '50s British bikes on the route!

Little late, but some images from Eroica. As many have said, great friends and people to meet, beautiful area, beautiful route (the 72 miler). Would do it again in spite of the organization, but may it improve. Have ridden with Andy K, nice dude, admire his tenacity to finish, congrats.

Hey Brad and Thanh, this is Matthias. So glad you made it Brad! We must have missed us at the finish by minutes.

@Thanh, thank you for all the pictures and your pacing. I was worried after our late start and really happy that you appeared from behind with a “Really, happy to see you guys”.

@brad, you never told us that you won with your bike the day before! I hope you made it safe back to Texas and had no incidents with your electrolyte bag

Matthias, haha, you remember the electrolyte bag from Brad. I'm glad he only showed it to us and not offering to share . Let me know if you have plans to do Eroica Gemania, I'll see if can come to pace for you. I was really happy to join up with you and your brother. Thanks for the photo with the big Eroica sign.

Yes, I got home Wednesday evening from the long drive. And no incidents with the electrolyte bags since I had a couple left. I didn’t want to bring the giant canister of EFS powder, so I just measured out enough for a bottle in each bag. They sure looked suspicious though.

It was great seeing everyone in 2022 after two years of cancellations due to COVID-19! I did the long ride in 2019 on the Bottecchia, so to change things up, I rode the Nova on my newly built Ridley Kanzo gravel bike and enjoyed a short cruise up the coast on Sunday to the lighthouse with my riding buddy Jonathan Roberts on his Cutter. I'm a local so I have a different perspective about Eroica CA. I ride these roads all the time so I'm hesitant to spend money on a local event unless the experience wows. This year still felt somewhat disorganized and haphazard. Like, the email I received said you could pick up registration material on Friday starting at 9:00 am. We showed up well after that and they were not even setup until closer to noon, and I was told that I could not pick up my classic ride stuff because it wasn't ready. I was told there was a "miscommunication." And this is super nitpicky, but on Friday they had no bib pins. I had to find a fabric store in SLO on a Friday afternoon (no easy task) to be prepared for my Nova ride since I don't keep safety pins in the house. Again, super minor, but just annoying enough. On Saturday after climbing Cypress, there were no volunteers on top. Fortunately, I had enough water and food to be self-sufficient, but that was a surprise. After the descent to Santa Rosa Creek Rd, there was a couple with a small table and a water jug waiting for riders. They were apologetic about not being on top and said there was "miscommunication" about where they should be. I made sure to express my appreciation for them being out and supporting riders wherever they may have ended up on the course. I have my doubts whether this version of Eroica survives without some new energy invested in organization.

Reviving this old thread. Has anyone heard anything yet? It seems it is about that time when they announce plans. Maybe just thinking too far ahead? I sent an email anyway to see . I am thinking about going up there for a get away with my wife and doing a ride up the coast. Fall is , to me , the best time of year for Central California. There are days up there that are less windy this time of year.

I have to agree that fall is a great time in Central California. Actually I think that is true most places. Enjoy the riding along the coast! I have plans to next spring (non-eroica event) to ride from Santa Cruz to Paso Robles and take the Train back. It will be mostly inland, going down the Salinas valley. I ride I have wanted to do for years. That piece of California (Steinbeck country) is beautiful in the spring and should have a good tailwind!

Still no word from the Italians , except to tell me they got my email. My belly button day is very close , a couple of weeks …perfect timing for a trip to San Simeon. Lynne and I can hopefully make it happen, I have dropped the idea to her and I think I saw a smile. Time to visit with our special place?

The next Eroica CA is now listed on the Eroica website at 17 September. Cambria is the location, there is a NOVA the day prior.

When I was in Gaiole for L'Eroica, I spoke to Wes and asked if he knew of the future of the event. He did not know, and basically told me that he has nothing to do with it at this stage.

Hopefully it goes on that date. I much prefer late summer to spring on the coast, and it would be a good training ride for me for Gaiole 2023.

If Eroica Inc. can recognize the errors, and commit to correcting them, I will volunteer. I'm not sure where they are in the #step program.

Same take here. I would volunteer and do my rides in days following the festivities. Do everything I can to make the riders happy and safe. Gladly.

So strange! I emailed them the day before I revived this thread(post 716). Still no reply to my email but an announcement of the date. I think September will be great but no registration or details yet. I am just glad to have something to look forward to. If it is as good as 2022 it will be fine , I was content. If they (we) could get it back to the level it was the earlier years in Paso Robles even better.

One concern is that I noticed the Nova Eroica website shows the ride on the same day as the classic ride, September 17th. I wonder if that's a typo or if they are combining the rides on the same day for logistical purposes -- there were some issues with volunteer support this year.

UPDATE: They've corrected the dates on the website.
