I lost my virginity tonight...
I was riding after dinner, and cutting through a deserted Board of Education parking lot. I was day-dreaming, and then I found myself thinking about my front brake, which was a bit loose, and thinking about whether to adjust it tonight or tomorrow. I know, DEEP thoughts.
Anyway, I must have been sort of staring at the brake lever, lost in my reverie, when I glanced up and straight ahead, not three feet in front of me, loomed a curb! Someone had decided that the sort of half-space at the end of the row of parking spaces should be curbed off, lest someone try squeezing his Mini-Cooper there for a few hours.
In a flash I knew I was going down -- and then I noticed that the curb had trapped a large puddle of dirty water behind it. With no time to turn, and no time to even think about how to fall, I perplunked right into the water.
I hadn't fallen even once since returning to cycling 14 months ago, hence the title of this thread. I was probably going the same speed one is going when one falls from not clipping out.
Anyway, the next thing I knew, I was lying in a couple of inches of water, with my bike on top of me. I climbed out, checked the bike and then myself. The bike is okay, the computer was whacked around, but that's it. I sustained minor road rash on my right ebbo but the funny part was that literally half my body was soaking wet, the other dry, pretty much from head to toe.
I looked like a human version of a tapir, except side to side, not front and back.
Next, I glanced around me to discover, to my joy, that I was probably unseen as I fell. No late workers filing out to their cars. I climbed onto the bike, rode home, showered, and here I am.
Just a bit sore on the ebbo, and a slight headache. I have to say, if one HAS to fall off one's bike, one could do a lot worse.

DG: sounds like your fall could have been much worse & I'm glad you're okay
but IF the bike had been totally wrecked
THEN you would have a good reason to go buy that new bike
AND we could have enjoyed all the new threads you started from adding this or that, adjusting this or that, etc. etc.
25 years ago I was in a similar situation where I rode smack into a curb at a 90 degree angle, flew off the bike & enjoyed a moment of quiet embarassment about what the hell was I thinking about to get to this point? The worst part was that my Schwinn urban cruiser's front fork was permanently 'wrinkled' just where the top bar attaches to the head tube = yes, a 2-fold wrinkle in the steel. The bike never rode the same again & I eventually abandoned it during a move.

Ouch, lol.
One time I was at a church parking lot watching these kids to my left skateboard off the steps, but 5 feet in front of me was a curb. I wasnt goin that fast but the bike wheel magically jumped it and I didnt fall But it turned into a flat-_-

Your schools have trainers in the storeroom? That's a great way for the teachers to get into shape during their 'off periods'...why kind of bikes were they on?

Gee, next time bunny hop the curb. It's faster than grabbing the brake or anything else. And it's easy after very little practice.

I agree with cyclintom, hopping the curb and then falling in the mud would be much funnier.
Anyway, happy to hear that the bike and rider are unijured except for pride.
