Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Super messy club ride today. Melting snow caused lots of water and puddles everywhere. Wish I had fenders. My chamois got wet and I felt like I was riding with a loaded diaper. Major messy rooster tails from the other riders too (except for the one smart guy who had fenders).

Made a 80 mile round trip this morning (to @RPK79 's neck of the woods) to buy a planer advertised on CL. It was ****ing broken. The person selling it didn't know enough about it to actually check functionality - he plugged it in and powered it on, but anything else was above his pay grade. So yeah, that sucked.

Went to the auto show with the family afterwards, though, so not a waste of a day. The boy picked out an orange, sporty Bentley as his favorite. Expensive tastes and he's not quite four, yet.

Yes. It was a blast, actually. Bike is a mess, though...and I am feeling way too lazy to wash it.

The other smart guy is the one riding behind the guy with the fenders.

I'm pretty sure that if you show up to a Seattle Intl. Rando ride without fenders, you will be shunned for the rest of your life, and beyond.

Not only had you better have fenders, you should also have a buddy flap. I'm relatively new here and didn't know any better. I got scolded on my first ride without a buddy flap.

Transiently very excited by this post because I assumed it was a bike ride.

Lol on the Craigslist thing. Mr H is perpetually frustrated because CL pictures of tools are often a picture of not the actual tool but some similar tool that the seller grabbed from the Internet. So he thinks he's going to look at some great deal and it's some piece of junk lesser thing. He exhibits the same degree of frustration over this every time. Whereas I take the position that he should expect nothing less from CL.

Funny story: when we moved from NC to California we sold a bunch of stuff on CL. Mr H handled all that, I can't deal with CL people. One day I'm at work and he texts me a pic of this compact pick up truck loaded down like the Beverly Hillbillies' jalopy. He sold a bunch of stuff to some CL hoarder type. I'm looking at the pic and I text him back, "Hey, do I see that old carpet in that truck?" We had an old carpet that the cat had peed on, we rolled it up and put it in the garage and never got around to throwing it away. Recently, we'd pulled a bunch of stuff out of the garage and made a pile on the porch, it was a staging area getting it ready to take the junk to the dump. The hoarder lady bought a bunch of stuff and then inquired what was in the pile on the porch. He told her just a bunch of miscellaneous stuff, he'd take $50 for it. Haha, she negotiated back that she'd give him $50 but only if he loaded it into her truck for her. Sold! Totally saved us a trip to the dump.

I think he was smart. Word is Kelly then got a call from DeMarco Murray asking if there was a place for him with the Eagles. Of course, he also wanted $10 million to play in Philly. He won't likely get it since A) Charles is known to be frugal and B) the Cowboys were only starting their offers to Murray at $5 mil.

LoP tends to become concerned if I'm not home within about 90 minutes of when I get off work and he hasn't heard from me. This is sweet but kind of funny since I'm incapable of going to the store for milk and coming back with just milk and not five other things and an anecdote about three of my fellow shoppers, what people were wearing, and what new products are on the shelves. I think this is normal for so-called "creative" people. One of John Steinbeck's wives- not that I'm anywhere in the same class as he was- said something like "You could never ask John to go buy a paper because by the time he got done talking to everyone in the store and brought it home, it'd be out of date and you'd have to send him for another one."
