Hey everyone. I'm looking at going out today to purchase an old Raleigh. The guy has it listed at $25. From the research I've done it looks like it's a '71 Record. According to him, it's almost all original (except for the seat), and in good condition.

I know that the Record was the bottom of the line 'race' style bike that Raleigh produced at the time, but is it worth $25-30 of my money now? If I were to flip it, how much could I get for it?

With new tires, cables, chain, bartape, and everything lubed and cleaned, you'd be lucky to $100 to $125 in my area of N. Florida. Not a good candidate to flip, but if you needed a good grocery getter, $30 is a good deal.

He says that it may be a super course, but I'm not so sure that it is. If it were a super course though, would it be worth more?

"Vintage Raleigh Bicycle - 10 Speed
Raleigh Road Bike. Strictly a "Survivor" from the early 70's.
We've owned it since 1972 it was used sparingly but was a very nice rider.
We have not used it since mid-80's. Still has original tires/tubes.
They've deteriorated somewhat and probably need to be replaced.
Frame is tight, straight, but paint has a few nicks, scratches and scrapes.
Shifter functions without issue. Center-pull brakes F&R.
Original Simplex, frame-mounted shift levers.
Bike is VERY lightweight, very sturdy and rides great going through the gears quite easily.
Not sure of the model...suspect it might be a "Super Course".
Just hanging in the garage as it has been for over 45 years.
Perfect specimen to restore (all original - except for maybe the seat?).
With new tires, it will make someone a very nice, dependable bicycle.
Need it out of the garage. Asking just $25."

It's not a Super Course. The only model that came with a painted fork in the blue/blue color scheme for those years was a Record, and that color shows up as a 1970. Here's a catalog scan for the 1971 Super Course. You can see the half-chromed fork, and the data shows it came only in a bronze or a green.

+1 the Record is the only road drop bar model I have seen in all blue no chrome from the 60's or 70's.

It's weird to see the seat stays in a color that matches the head tube and seat tube panel.

It's a working bike for $25... If you're going to ride it, of course it's worth it.

To ride, worth it. To flip, forget it. What's your time worth? On flips you really need to aim higher.
