looking to buy vintage 3 speed english bike in l.a- where to look?
I'm looking for a vintage 3 speed, step-through or mixte frame, with as many salvageable components as possible. the prices for what I'm looking for seem kind of out of whack on craigslist, especially considering how many upgrades these bikes need, and, though there's some good stuff on e-bay, it tends to be concentrated in the northeast. Any ideas for where I can look? My preference would be for a raleigh...

I'm a fan of three speeds. They are becoming rare to see for sale. There's a few on Craigslist right now. Had a guy make the drive from Venice to Costa Mesa to pick up my Free Spirit 3 speed. And he thanked me. Expect to pay $100-$200 depending on condition. Raleigh command a premium.
Don't rule out a Huffy, Murray, or Free Spirit. They're usually decent bikes. My Freep was built by Giant. Regret selling it now. Was going to paint it black and make a fictitious English nameplate. Wyvern Everspeed came to mind

26" Murray Bike - 3 speed - ALL NEW GREASE
Tubes hold air, Classic bike
Near K mart In Apple Valley
$70 firm
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It'll need some work, and the stock brakes are usually horrible. I bought a set of Weinmann long reach sidepulls off Ebay for $15 with shipping. With a set of Koolstop pads that'll be adequate.

Thanks. Got my hands on a beautiful 1968 Lady's Raleigh Superbe. Everything is up and running, though the Original Front and Rear Lights, connected to the original SA Dynohub, are very weak. Does anybody know of anyone who can help me either successfully retrofit these front and tail Lights with LEDS? Or install modern LED lights that would function with the Sturmey Archer Dynohub? All the mechanics I've talked to have told me that that simply switching to LED bulbs in these vintage lights won't do much, and that the dynohub doesn't generate enough power to work with modern LED lights. Is this true? Thanks in advance for your help!
