Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Help on pricing a 2008 CAAD9 with limited info

My dad lives a few hours away and spotted a bike he thought I might be interested in. I can't go see it, and unfortunately my dad doesn't know much about bikes. He's tried to describe the parts to me, but I'm not altogether sure on them, either.
From what I've gathered, here are the non-stock parts (unfortunately no years known).
Rear derailleur: Campy Centaur
Front derailleur: Campy Centaur 10 Sp
Crank: says Campy Centaur Ultra Torque System
Headset: says FSA on it
Fork: I believe it is the stock fork, says Premium Integration System on it.
Bars: Deda Shallow 215
Riser: Thomson
Saddle: Selle Italia
Front Rim: Says Mavic Open Pro
Hub: Says Paul 32 USA
Pedals: Crankbrothers
Brakes: Campy Centaur
Shifters: I believe Campy Centaur 10 Speed
And last but not least, some horrible pictures

The guy is asking $500. Should I buy?

as with almost all "toy" purchases I go with a simple philosophy. "Am I happy with the deal?" If I answer yes I excitedly whip out the cash and take the bike. I put my money down and dang the consequences or the nay'sayers. If I answer "no" I move on. If I answer "should I?" I simply make myself wait a week and see how I feel after that.

Sorry it doesn't directly help with is this bike worth this much if you were spending someone else's money.

Make sure that you double check the year model. It looks like most 2008 CAAD9 5&6's came with the Shimano parts. Other than that, if it's what you think you need, then by all means buy it.

Campy Centaur is very good. I think it's a good deal for $500, assuming no damage and everything in decent shape.

The seller probably bought a bare frame and built it with Campy, rather than get a stock Shimano bike. I have a 2008 Six-13 with Centaur. Very similar to that bike, and I like it a lot.

Very good deal, esp with the upgraded wheel. But the lack of stem spacers worry me. Make sure he rides it before he buys.
