Almost a year gone by without any problems and this saturday this happens



Is it because we tend to ride more at the tip of the saddle? Now I need to get another one, I'm thinking of the Fizik Arione, I already have one and it fits me well. Any problems reported with those?

i've been using ariones. Ti, Chro, and Carbon railings no problems here.

Yeah, the Romin is a comfy saddle that is known to break under riders of all sizes. Literally everyone that I know who has or had one has broken it. I was in the bike shop a couple of weeks ago for a saddle and mentioned the Romin and the clerk commented that he had one...and it also broke.

Ariones are a solid choice. They have a very flat top, which is different than the curved Romin. Consider the Fizik Aliante. It has a curve similar to the Romin but I didn't find it as comfortable as the Romin.

I moved from a romin to a phenom, and found it to be nearly as good and I'm going onto a year without breaking one...vs every few months with a romin. Saddles are so individual that the recommendations for what else have worked for people aren't all that useful though.

As said above, this is a pertty well known issue. Sp'ed shouldn't give you too hard a time exchanging it. Tho you may likely brake that one too.

I don't want to hop on the bandwagon, but I'm also a former owner of a Romin. I had one of the original carbon railed Romin Pros before the evos were out and were selling for $150. The carbon rails held up fine to road and track use. The saddle shell body? Same breakage in the middle of the saddle.

Looks like now they jacked up the price $50 and didn't even try to improve the durability of the shell. The number of broken Romin stories kind of speaks to the longevity of those saddles. I'm not a composites expert, but the fact that they are 'carbon-reinforced' nylon shells might have something to do with it. Maybe if they beefed up the saddle shell with actual carbon they would be harder to break.


I'm now riding a carbon railed fizik Aliante and have had no problems with over 2 full seasons of track use. No regrets.

I tended to stick with the Selle ITalia lineup, had a Concor (Selle San MArco) (old traditional swoopy shape with steel rails) --

Concor and Turbo saddles for me as long as I can keep finding them on ebay and through old stock in the back of dusty bike shops

The steel rails last until the foam is too broken down to use, or the cover is nastied up from crashes -- the mechanic at a shop I took my late model Cannondale road bike to ridiculed the old Turbo I had on there, but its my butt- literally --

Flites, and other sleek Ti railed saddles do not last me long at all on my track bike -- I squash the rails, so had to use the old school saddles, but found I liked em for the road too
