Kinda reminds me of a flouroscent pink Pina Veneto I had. After buying it on ebay (for a really good price), I noticed that the ST bottlecage fit really close. Hand drilled, albeit pretty straight. No rivnut, just the screws catching enough threads to hold the cage. If I'd put a full bottle in, it would have ripped right out.
Fortunately, this was in 2004 so I had no problem passing it on to a fixie riding hipster.

Wish I had a picture, but the scummiest bike for sale I ever saw was a Specialized Allez Pro at a Play it Again Sports store. The very large price tag was in a strange spot, none of their other bikes had a price tag located anywhere near this location.
So I asked them if anything was under that large tag. Answer "no of course not, we wouldn't do anything like that." Me: "So you wouldn't. mind me pulling the tag off?" Them: "No, go ahead." Me, peeling it off: "Well look, that is a huge DENT under that tag".
It also had mechanical issues: Me: "the front shifter doesn't work," Them: "We tested it, it shifts fine to all three chain rings". Me: "well this bike only has two chain rings."......
I have learned to always remove tape, or anything not original to frame. How did I learn this? Through making buying mistakes naturally.... Learn from others, or learn from your own mistakes. Those are the two choices. I recommend the former, but I usually learn from the latter. Random stickers are harder to deal with, as they can be all over the frame. There I base my offer on what the parts are worth. If the seller thinks their bike is worth more, I am OK with walking away. Sometimes, the BEST decision on buying a bike is NOT buying the bike. Another lesson I learned the hard way. I think I see a pattern here.

I'm curious about the Allen key shaping of the intact bottle boss. Never seen that before, and can't understand for the life of me why it would need such a feature. Every bottle braze-on I've seen has simply been internally threaded; with no provision for a hex key.
Makes me wonder if a PO thought it could be removed, went at it with a hex key, and caused the damage we see here.
Anybody else have a close-up of a LeMond with this same version of bottle bosses? Because I'm truly curious.

I don't know much about frame repair, but I'd guess that this would be fixable by someone who knows their stuff. Whether it's worth doing is another question, though.

Ask any hillbilly and they will tell you JB Weld is Duct tapes brother from another mother. After a 40 mile ride today, I think that bottle cage is on there forever.

I think of JB Weld as duct tape's cousin that picked up a steroid addiction while in prison.
(And I just realized how lucky I am that the copious electrical tape used for the Cateye Mity wiring on the Nishiki I bought a month or so ago hid nothing but sticky residue....)
