I have several friends who run bike shops so I make piles of stuff for each one of stuff I am not interested in but still good. Every 6 months or so I take it over. There are some stuff that I straight up throw away, like enormous saddles.

I keep less and less stuff around compared to what I used to.. But if it has any life in it, I either post it on CL, my local bike club boards, or donate it to a coop or a friend.
If freeing up a shelf for more useful proposes means I may need to buy a $25 new part every few years, so be it.

Give them to a used bike shop. I’ve given a few items away, some fairly desirable. It keeps the parts in circulation, and me in good favor with the shop owner.

There are a number of not-for-profit entities that serve a dual purpose. They train inner-city youngsters to become bike mechanics and they ship re-built bikes to poor countries, which enables rural dwelling people to bike to work in more urban areas. In those areas, it's a lifeline out of poverty. Many people donate old bikes and parts to these places, which use them to re-build the bikes to be shipped out. Try to find such an entity near you and just donate your stuff. The one near me takes whatever you want, keeps what it can use and discards the rest. I assume most such places do the same. They also happily accept cash contributions.

CL and eBay seem less effective, I got better results off a local Facebook group. I managed to move an entire Shimano 2300 3x8 drive train last spring. of course I still a set of 2x8 brifters to ditch so it may be time to advertise for winter projects or donate

I can't do it- It's happened too many times that I've tossed something "I'll never ever use" only to need it 2 weeks later and have to go buy one.

I do volunteer work at a non-profit bike kitchen restoring bikes to give to underprivileged kids and adults. We love to get clean, quality parts. We also serve as an old-parts warehouse for a lot of home-mechanics. If you're anywhere near Lincoln, Nebraska or Kansas City, Missouri I'll pick up whatever you've got to give.

My kids are in a program called Star Track in NYC, they always have a need for track and road bike parts since most of the kids don't have their own. Its a free program so plenty of kids can't afford the bike or live someplace where there's no storage. They end up with my nice used items and I end up buying things to do repairs. Tires, tubes, wheels, spokes, whatever is needed.

My strategy has been to use the co-op for parts storage. Donate, buy, repeat. Combined with volunteering, where I can get my wrenching fix, my garage stayed tidy.

I sold a bunch of bike & camera stuff a few years ago...couldn't get any bites on Craigslist so it was sold on eBay. I'm glad I got some money out of it but didn't like when I realized how many hundreds of dollars eBay got out of the sales!
