diet plan is coming along. 100+ fever all day yesterday and held down 2 cheese sticks and 2 cups of chicken broth. Also slept for like 16 hours between 11am yesterday and 8am this morning. I got the flu shot this year but I guess not this strain.

on the opposite end of the spectrum this "sitting in a dark room" concussion recovery has ruined my diet plan. all i can think about is food.

Sadly, cycling's tripod position, in which the saddle, pedals, and handlebar support your weight, relies on core strength but doesn't build it.
Critical reasoning skills are not strong in this world.

60mins today with 3x15 at 90%+ sweet spot, the third interval in particular was tough, prob because I had also done a 90min session last night until 11:30pm so maybe I had some residual tiredness

My experience is that better core strength allows for better stability and power transfer when sprinting. It allows you to get more leverage by pulling on the bars which might otherwise be slightly wasted effort. My experience is also that riding lots increases core strength a lot. I don't think dedicated sprinters are throwing time away by doing situps or russian twists.

I do core exercises regularly. I feel that it results in a significant increase in strength when pedaling hard out of the saddle, whether climbing or sprinting. To me, when I'm strong it feels like having power-up boost to use out of the saddle. Also I feel that it improves my general feeling of health and well-being.

someone just tell me how you can use a muscle beyond its capacity without strengthening it please. Any context. That's all I was referring to.

Core and box jumps - better than just doing more cycling.
Running and rowing - waste of time.

2hr easy spin on the trainer. Y'all should check out The Expanse on SyFy streaming, it's up there close to Battlestar Galactica as far as quality.

I train to race bicycles. Most of that training is on the bike. The only training I do off the bike is core strength exercise, which I feel improves bicycle racing. I don't run or row because I think the same amount of time spent training on the bike would have a higher payoff.
I don't think that my point of view is radical, hypocritical, or inconsistent. Do you? It kind of seems like you are looking for an argument.

The Expanse is an amazing book series. I feel like the show did a decent job (Far better than whatever the hell this current Star Trek thing is). But it [The Expanse] wont be coming out with enough frequency to become my go-to trainer time show.
I think I may just ingest all of the old cartoon Batmans and Justice Leagues this winter.

Heh, I saw an ad for the TV show ("game of thrones in space" or something?), didn't know it was based on a book, saw your comment, always looking for a good read so I looked it up. Turns out I read it already.

Cool, I'll have to pick up the books too!
RE: winter shows, if winter ever shows up I'll probably wind up working my way through the holy trinity again (The Wire, The Sopranos, Deadwood).

I was under the impression that riding in the drops for long periods was core work.

I used to strain my back once or twice a year, usually from a combination of things like yardwork, lots of cycling, skiing, rock climbing but not usually with a single event or accident. The result was generally a week off the bike and another of easy riding before I was back to full training. Since I started core training with a variety of stretching and strength work, I haven't been forced to take any time off of training to recover, although it has only been 1 1/2 years or so. So, while core strength may or may not directly improve sprint strength, for me I think it indirectly makes me faster by not forcing untimely breaks in training.

May be time for me to start core again. I haven't done any upper body work in maybe 2 years, and still definitely above average, but I am getting back aches from the office.

3.5 hours this morning. Race ride plus commute.
Just sat in for most of the group ride, worried I'd be fatigued, but it was "mild" enough that I even accidentally took a few pulls. Group jumped off the front before the sprint, and as usual I took it upon myself to try and bring it back. Went all out but failed to get anyone close enough, dammit.
Rest tomorrow, and hopefully it's dry enough on the weekend to get at least 200 TSS and an hour of threshold.
