Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is also the reason red bikes are faster. You can dawdle on a blue bike, or a black bike, or a white bike. But if you're riding a red bike and dawdling, people look at you funny.

Perhaps when you were a ute, people were driving RWD cars, or pickups.

Yep. Also why a 55T minimum front chainring on a TT bike is the hot ticket. If you're in the 55-58x11, you're killing it, and likely going downhill. Otherwise you're in a larger rear cassette cog, and not only is the chain bending less, the chain line is better.

Took a trip to Best Buy and picked up two new wireless phone chargers, one for home, one for the car. I'm more excited about them than I should be.

In fairness, though, the one for the car, in addition to being wireless, also has a proximity sensor and it automagically opens and clamps down on the phone.

I think I'm becoming immune to caffeine. I've been drinking coffee all morning and not only am I still sleepy, but my HR is 41. Also not jittery. I blame Mrs. GeneJockey, who is not pulling her weight in the coffee drinking department, so I have to finish the pot.

Yeah, in terms of bike accessories, an OSPW would be way down the list - computer, power meter, radar, camera, etc. would all be much more of a priority.

Instead of investing in a power meter this year, I invested in making it much less likely I'd get a power meter.

Having ridden with the Vario for a couple weeks now, I'd put radar right behind computer. I feel so much better with it. I do have a problem on my older bikes, though, which is that I really like the aesthetic of riding them with nothing on the bars, so I sometimes tuck the Garmin in my jersey pocket so it records the ride (with HR, cadence, and speed), but doesn't interfere with the 'Just Ride' feeling of nekkid bar/stem. BUT safety >>> aesthetics.

Re #99: Have you tried it? Some Grand Tour champions have famously done that and gone on to win! This could be an example of Correlation not equalling Causation, but still.......

Weight in the trunk typically won't help FWD cars in the snow. Unless you traded the Accord in for an S2000 without telling us.

I have seen a number of FWD cars where the owners put bigger wheels/tires on the back. More so back in the 80s than today, because I think FWD is more common/better understood now.

Fatties on the front is the way to go! (probably don't want slicks for the snow though)
